I have an electric keggle that I would like to trade for another sankey keg, the all metal Labatt/Keith's/Olands 58l type. It has the ball valve installed and a sight tube, plus it is drilled for an element, and is very well insulated. The fittings aren't welded, and there is a very minor leak somewhere, but it shouldn't take much to tighten that down, I just haven't had the time. The reason I am looking for a new keg is that I picked up a new style of heating element, and want to start from scratch with a new build.

What type of power source does this use? 110 or 220?

220. You need that much power to boil 13 gallons.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I guess I will stick to propane for now, maybe switch to electric down the road.

LOL. That was the one big surprise on my first all-grain brew - it takes a LOT of energy to get that wort to boil! Getting the mash up to 150F was easy (too easy - I had trouble keeping it from getting too hot), but it took me two hours to get a boil (with propane - I definitely need to investigate ways to improve the efficiency).

Yeah, I'm not sure how to easily insulate a propane fired keg. That's one reason I went electric, efficiency. When I ran my old turkey fryer, one thing that made a huge difference was a heat shield around the pot. The hot gases traveling up the space in between the pot and the shield worked well to get the temperature up.

X, what kind of keg do you need? A pure keg with nothing done to it? I have one with the rubber on top and bottom but not sure what you are up to? These make great mash tun's and fermenters. Let me know.

I may have a line on a new Labatt's keg, but the rubber chined keg (I think those are Molson's) would work for me too. I may be interested in that one if this other deal falls through. Is the volume stamped on that keg?

Yeah the volume is stamped right on it, i don't recall what it is but I know it's there. I can check when i go home at lunch.

I love seeing new setups! I don't think I could do that one though, i'd be too worried about leaks!

I am intrigued. What are you looking at in terms of time to bring a 5 or 10 gallon batch up to boil? Would it be possible to TIG weld that into a keg?

Check out the link on that set-up. I think the guy explains some of the times. I would only need one at 4700W for a keggle though, and another for an HLT. You could weld that (or use a compression fitting), but what I like about it is that it is so easy to remove.

X the stamp on the keg shows 50L. Not sure if this is big enough for what your looking for. I don't recall ever seeing a 58L Keg?

All the Labatt's/Keith's/Olands/Brewers Union kegs are 58l. Its a small difference, but it makes a big difference on some of the big beers I brew. Would be ok for a HLT though. I'll keep this in mind. Thanks.

You can always fuse together a kettle and a half We took 3 kegs we had and made 2 super keggles I'm not sure the max capacity but they may hold 75 litres each
