Update: WTB Ball lock Corny

*Update, ditching the keg lid for the time being, decided to add an extra corny to the fleet.

Hey 'nosers, been a while since I posted, but I am making the time for some holiday brewing. I could use a few items!

Name your price!

Anybody got a spare corny lid kicking around??

I could use some 12oz beer bottles for my vanilla porter. I think I need about 40.

Anybody know where I can find those blank cardboard 4-pack carriers? I have looked online, but it seems like there is a min order of 200 or so.

Cheers!

I can supply you with 650 ml bottles and caps if needed.

Hello, thanks for the reply. I appreciate the offer, but I am pretty set on 12oz bottles for my Christmas brews. If it comes down to it, I have some Fisher bottles, but (can't believe I'm saying this after all the years scrubbing bottles) I would prefer the smaller ones this time around. Also, I'm sceptical about getting many of the bottles back.

Anybody know if NB sells corny lids??

Yes they do, but they're close to 20 bucks I think.

One of our ontario stores sells them IIRC.

I have no idea how big 12oz bottles are. What's that in Canadian?

:) Wow, I have been away so long that I didn't even notice the new vendors on here. Very nice!

That actually doesn't look too bad. The Ontariobeerkegs site has them for $15 ATM, but with shipping I might just run over to NB and pick one up.

Thanks for the info, guys.

Any ideas for the 4-pack carriers?

By the way, my oz to Canadian calculator is telling me that 12oz = 355mls.

Wait a minute...when you are typing NB (Northern Brewer), do you mean NG (Noble Grape)?

... Yup. (facepalm) That's exactly what I mean. Haha. Would prefer to get it locally, not sure it will arrive in the mail in time if I order through the Internet, and I don't want to go too long past 10 days in primary with my Hefe.

does the NSLC have the cardboard carriers? NBliquor do but they're 6packs. Do they have to be 4 packs?

I think so. I didn't get enough volume to give 6 bottles each. (That's another reason for the small bottles) I could probably dismantle one and use it as a stencil on cardboard sheets if necessary. :?

Ah, thanks. I'm using those for yeast samples. All you need to do is host a Brewnosers meeting and you'll get plenty of small bottles.

By the way for $20 you could get a full keg from JohnyMac. He's in Dartmouth.

I've got plenty of small bottles, but they are a mish-mash of different styles (pry off, twist off, long neck, short neck, etc). And most still have the labels on.Are those appealing to you?
Also, I've got a lid I could LEND you if you strike out locally, to tide you over until you get one.
No leads on the 4-packs, though.

How many pry offs do you have? Labels and different shapes are fine.

If it comes down to it with the keg lid, I might just pony up for a whole corny. It seems like a replacement lid is going to cost marginally less, my only concern is trying to figure out a use for a lid-less keg. :wtf:

Something else is bound to need replacing at some point so you'll face the same dilemma again. It's best just to bite the bullet, get a new one, and relegate the old one to being replacement parts.

Hmm. Interesting. Just treat it as a salvage keg for parts. I have limited space, but if JM has a corny to spare I will go this route.

Update: I've decided to ditch the lid idea for the time being and just pick up an extra ball lock. Anybody got a spare corny kicking around? I will skim ebay periodically for a cheap corny lid, but I need to get my hefe into a keg this weekend.

Also, I'm going to try to build some reusable bottle carriers out of cheap/scrap materials. If these turn out okay, I'll post 'em up.

No worries, the porter tastes great as well. The girlfriend and I are drinking it right now!

Good to hear. I have had some dodgy results with Nottingham in the past, but as I said, I was trying to create a clean simple base for my Vanilla porter!
