I just ordered used, cleaned and pressure tested kegs from OBK.
At $56 a keg and free shipping for orders over $100 I thought I'd share with you guys.

Don't want to worry you...
I bought one last week. Perhaps obk specials on kegs are specials for a reason!
Mine had pressure in it when I received it but after cleaning it leaked like a sieve round the lid. Thats when I noticed a nice little dent in the rim around the seal.
If I gave it 20lbs co2 it would seal, but much less than that it would lose air.
I very carefully tried to straighten out the dent and now it seals at a much lower pressure, but not perfect.
Hopefully you will be luckier than me.
He might have a pressure guarantee but for me its not worth the agro to send back.

I also ordered a stir plate and some hops I couldnt get locally and a few other bits so free shipping. His prices are very good.

That sucks, I really hope it was just bad luck. I'll report back with the condition of the kegs I get.

Used kegs can be a gamble for sure. You can try doubling up the lid o-ring or try the ole coins under the latch legs trick to add sealing pressure. It worked on a couple I've had issues with mangled lid sealing.

Thanks I will give that a try (the second idea first I think), at least until I get a spare o ring!

I've always had luck buying kegs from OBK. I always rebuild the seals on kegs when I buy them anyway.

Good to know there's hope haha, I did order a set of replacement o-rings for one keg. I'll pickup the same for the second keg next ingredient order I make.

(Dip Tube O-Ring) #109 Buna cost is .06 cents , Silicone cost is .42 cents each
(Post O-Ring) #111 Buna cost is .07 cents , Silicone cost is .46 cents each
(Lid O-Ring) #417 Buna cost is $ 4.81 each , Silicone is $ 8.98 each

Thanks, one lid seal would be great. I really should get round to servicing mine.
I will be at the Malt split. See you there.

Andre, I bought 3 kegs from there too that just arrived a couple days ago. They seem in working condition. I haven't used them yet but I wouldn't worry too much

I actually just got them in today, brought the tank to get it filled at lunch.

They seem to be in good condition for the most part. I'll know more once I check for leaks.

Good to hear. I must have just been unlucky

I emailed OBK about my leaky keg and got the following reply:
To seal a keg.

Apply keg lube or vaseline to the gaskets. They need lubrication at all times
Put the lid in and do not close the arms, leave the mechanism open. Closing it will lock the lid on crooked
Apply 20-30 PSI, this will force the lid up and make the seal.
Once it is sealed you may now close the arms

Important note- If your beer is not carbonated leave it under pressure. If you do not the beer will absorb the co2 and the seal will break.

Spray test with soapy water each and every time you do something to a keg.
I just wanted to check with you guys. Do you lubricate the lid O-ring?
Do you apply Co2 before closing the lid?

Oh and thanks Keith for the spare O rings :D

I can tell you our collection of 26 kegs amongst the boys don't have keg lube on any of them. The shit is near impossible to get off and I'm sure it would eventually lead to an infection as dirt and grime will just stick to it.

Typically I seal with 20-30 PSI.
Sometimes you need to adjust the lid and pull up to get the seal.
Sometimes you may need to heat the oring and lid (hot starsan) to make it more pliable.

and NP on the orings. I still have lots.

Also if you ever have a leak around the poppet and replace /w the universal poppets. Cut the first 2 rings off. Otherwise it can be near impossible to get the ball lock disconnect on the post.

For me, keg lube is a last resort. Best method I have for getting the seal is to leave it unlatched, pull up slightly on the handle while applying 20 to 30 PSI. Latch after the seal is made, and always check for leaks. My 12 used kegs do not currently have keg lube on them.

I just tested my kegs and didn't find any leaks.

But I took note of everything said here, as I'm just starting kegging my beer and need all the advice I can get.

Quick update, I kegged my first beer!! I noticed one of the poppets was broken so took one off the other keg. I'll be ordering a few when I'm ready to brew my next batch. Everything else seems fine with no leaks (as I can tell with spraying starsan on all the obvious parts).

I ordered 4. They arrived with lots of pressure in them. Used one so far without issue.

Just ordered 3 pin lock kegs today at $39 each, plus a few other things. I wanted to get 4 kegs, but as soon as I added the fourth, the shipping charges tripled. Still, 3 kegs shipped for $10 is a great deal.
Thanks for the heads up on the sweet deals.
