The QC's just use 1/4" npt's on the other side, so there's an endless combination of connections you can go with.

Ok then, silly question...fever31 wrote:Hello BenFrank...
I had mine filled at Noble Grape on Quinpool...Cost me 4.99 plus tax and tank date was not an issue...I would not use it to force carb your corney as it would take a lot of your co2...I plan to carb with reg tank and use jacpac to be used when outside or going to parties...I'll leave the other answers to others or until I have mine hooked up and flowing...
Can I bulk prime my beer (as in bottle priming) and then just dump that into a keg?
Will it carb up?

I prime in the keg all the time, in fact, I prefer this method. Fill the keg, and then add priming sugar. Purge, and hit with a blast of CO2 to seal the lid, and wait a week or so.

Thanks guys!
I'm moving closer to a poor man's keg setup every day!
Now all I need is a QDC, a clamp, a corny keg and a thumb tap...
Mmmm I can taste the tapped beer already.

You can get all of that stuff at Noble Grape, as well as the tank refill. Clamp is $0.50 at Home Depot.BenFrank wrote:Thanks guys!

The bulk priming idea is a good one to save CO2, if you can wait that while. Unsure how much CO2 a keg will absorb, but I'm sure it is calculatable.
Welcome to kegging (almost)!

Yeah, it's easy to calculate. I think Beersmith does it, but there's lots of table out there.

Re: Jacpac's have resurfaced
Hey Guys...Thanks for the info, never considered or heard that you could use bulk priming in the corney...The 2 that I have done were force carbed and worked ok...Curious to know if there is any problems with clogged tubes with this method...Also it was metioned that it be purged, I assume that you completely purge 14 days after priming and bring pressure up to serving pressure (now use 7 to 10 psi) or if i'm wrong please correct me...I think I wouls much prefer to bulk prime than force but would like you opinions.
The beers I have been making are the grain kits from NG and come with a premeasured bag of priming sugar and should be fairly easy to figure who much to put in...When I put in bottles I would get 66 bottles per kit, and when a keg is filled I have enough left for 8 bottles, and hope my math was right the prime mixture made 12 oz when boil finished used 1 1/2 oz to prime the bottles and would assume that the 10 1/2 oz would go in the corney...Again would like to know what others do as I am also just learning as I go...So far so good...Thanks All

Re: Jacpac's have resurfaced
10 oz is waaaay to much. About 4 oz will get you a nicely carbed ipa/pale ale/bitter. You always purge the corny immediately after filling, and that's it, unless you take the lid off again. The priming will bring the corny up to pressure.

Ok...Thanks...I was just calculating that what did not go into bottles from the 12 oz the prime makes would go into the keg...Thanks Again

Re: Jacpac's have resurfaced
so there is a bit of confusion happening i think. use 4oz (120 grams ish) of sugar, boiled in a little bit of water, then drop that in a keg and rack in on top of it. when fever31 was saying 12oz, i think he means 12oz of the boiled sugar solution.
usually when i prime the extra couple bottles of a batch, i'll just drop a teaspoon or so of table sugar directly into the bottle. seems to work fine.

Re: Jacpac's have resurfaced
Hello Guys...Sorry for the confusion...When you get the recepie kits from NG there is a premeasured bag of prime sugar that you boil with 8 oz of water and that makes the 12 oz of solution I was refering to...doing the math keeping it equal the 8 bottles that I fill that do not go into the corney use up 1 1/2 ounces between the 8 bottles and that leaves 10 1/2 ounces of prime solution for the rest of the batch that I was trying to find out if you put all of it in the corney...Thanks....

A word of warning on the jacpac seal. Make sure it has a little lubrication before you screw on the regulator. I tore one up, most likely because it was dry.

What seal are you talking about? I used mine for the first time this weekend with no issues, but now I'm worriedmr x wrote:A word of warning on the jacpac seal. Make sure it has a little lubrication before you screw on the regulator. I tore one up, most likely because it was dry.

The o-ring on the tank.

Re: Jacpac's have resurfaced
Just in case someone wants a deal. There was one JacPac left without the boxboard sleeve (and missing the spare O-rings). I took the second last one that was without a boxboard sleeve and missing the safety glasses and went to customer service. I said I'd take it for $15 and they let it go for that. The paintball tank itself is worth close to that, so with the regulator and hose it seems like a good deal. YMMV but if your going there anyway you might want to grab it. You might even get it for less. When they agreed to $15 I was cursing myself thinking I should have said $10

Re: Jacpac's have resurfaced
Thanks for the heads up, Anthony. Which location was this? My regulator ran into some issues, and is basically fried (does not withstand beer inside, strangely enough), so I'm looking for a replacement.

Before you chuck it, let me see it. I might be able to clean it up.

Re: Jacpac's have resurfaced
Will do. Was considering soaking it in something (PBW? Oxiclean? hot soapy water?) to dissolve the dried beer, just haven't gotten around to it. And wasn't sure what would be effective without ruining it.

I've got the chemicals.
Don't use caustic if it's aluminum, which I think it is. At any rate, drop it off and I'll look at it.

FYI there's one left at the PA in Dartmouth. Open box, no price. As well, my regulator is leaking through the adjustment screw - don't know if there's much to do other than chuck it. Rigged up a regulator to use with the small tank - not as portable but it works.

Re: Jacpac's have resurfaced
IIRC, they come apart fairly easily. It's just a regulator bolted inside a plastic housing.

Re: Jacpac's have resurfaced
I'll probably take it apart at some point. I think I may have had some small "helper" hands completely unscrew the adjustment knob ... and completely tighten it in. With the housing still on I couldn't pinpoint the leak.
