Found this:
http://conical-fermenter.com/products/conicals/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looks like this Dave guy is flipping something lots of people are carrying. And there is a 14.5Gal model, just look at the 7.3Gal on the site... exactly the same. How is it that all these people claim that they make these themselves when they obviously are ordered overseas or at least put together here.

He hasn't claimed anything though. He sells them on eBay with no other claims than that......or at least from what I've seen. Seeing as he has 1805 feedback with 100% rating, his product and customer service appears to be very good. I'm not sure if his 7.3 gal conical is the exact same as the one in the link you posted, but if it is, his price is quite a bit cheaper. :)

If you guys are worried about the quality then wait until the one i'm getting comes and then you can have a look and judge for yourselves. Canuck says he has 2 and is very happy with them and this guy has no negative feedback on ebay, that's good enough for me to give it a try. X)

It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? Here's a thought, chances are the guy on Ebay is just getting shipments direct from China. If we can track down the supplier, or a supplier, it would probably be a lot cheaper to order direct from the factory. I'm not sure how easy that would be or if it's even possible, but perhaps something worth looking into?

edit: something like this http://yintong.en.made-in-china.com/pro ... enter.html

I'll try and see if I can find anything more this weekend when I'm not at work.

Does anyone with a similar conical have a temperature controlled environment setup?

I'm curious to know if this would work in a fridge or freezer fermentation chamber, or what other options are available.

I actually only have one, and it's currently in transit. I was really really tempted to purchase the one you bought since the price was so cheap but just didn't want to spend the additional money right now. Dave was even nice enough to throw in some extra gaskets and stainless steel thermometer and thermowell at no additional cost. So far, I've been extremely happy with his customer service. I'll give a full report on the conical once it arrives.

Interested? Definitely...
Do I have the scratch this instant? Not exactly sure, probably could sell something
Is this the smartest use of said funds right now? Definitely not.
Will the wife snatch my nuts off and use them for dice if one of these lands at the house? Definitely
Will I buy one? Most likely

Mr. X, just curious why you say you need 14 gal minimum? 12.5 gal * 80% = 10 gal. I thought you only did 10 gal batches.

They are a nice unit for the money but the quality control on some of them leaves a lot to be desired. My 7 was fine but the 12 I had to have welds fixed on it.

I do, but in reality, it's 11 gallons into fermenters, and even at that, I can blow off a lot. 12.3 gal is too small IMHO for 10 gal batches.

Ouch. It sounds like you're in for a world of hurt...

You should probably point out that your nuts will likely not be very good dice, but I suspect that won't help much

What supplier(s) were yours from? The one mentioned in the original post, or the Stout Conicals link, or somewhere else?
Were there leaks, or just messy welds, or ?
Thanks for the info, it's appreciated.

Hi All:
I have the 7.5 gallon stout conical. I'm sure its the same supplier (china).I went with the 1.5 " butterfly valve upgrade instead of the 7/8 " sanitary ball valve. I've had mine since december last year and have used it for eight brews.

http://conical-fermenter.com/products/spares/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've had no issues with dumping yeast with this setup,except I wish I went with the 14.5 g tank . With the headspace in the 7.5 a blow off tube is a must or the rubber seals on the lid leak a bit no matter how hard you torque the wingnut,and the larger tank lets you run bigger when you want the volume.
Just my two cents from an extract brewer thinking about grain.lol

I don't really like the look of the lid mechanism on the 7.3-14.5Gal models, the wing nut??, common??? the lid on the 20 Gallon Conical Fermenter shown on the page is a better design also taking up less space, I've also read that the wing nut closure system has been known to leak more and blown gaskets. Just saying, not sure why they wouldn't have the same clamp closure on sizes smaller than 20Gal.

Too bad you had it shipped to work - otherwise it would have been the perfect day to pull out the 'I have explosive diarrhea' card and go home early to set it up! You'll have to let us know how it looks once you get it out of the crate.

It's pretty much a one shot deal... reserved for special occasions only - I think a new conical qualifies!

Awesome! Mine hasn't arrived yet, which is weird since mine was shipped before yours. According to USPS website, it's in Canada at least. Let's see some pics when you get home! :D
