LF:erlenmeyer sources

Post by Maritimer » Wed Feb 06, 2013 9:14 pm

I asked a couple lab friends where I could find a 3000ml E flask, they directed me to this site http://www.ultident.com/scientific/prod ... 2d11213000 but there are no automated shipping quotes. The price seems reasonable.

Does anyone know of a better place to look? Or better still does anyone have a spare flask they would sell or trade?

We have a Brewnoser connection on Erlenmeyer flasks for 2L and smaller at institutional pricing. For larger, we're dealing with third parties. On the last 5L GB, HopDawgs treated us very well.
If you're thinking about 3L, I'd suggest that you make the leap to 5L as you'll be into the same price range anyway and will appreciate the additional size. For my starters, I either use a 2L or 5L depending on what I'm up to.
If there is enough interest, we could get something rolling......

Ouch! Did you drop it, or was it from the heating/chilling process?

Jimmy: Well, I sort of dropped it. (My last one I killed by putting it directly on a coil stove--note to self/others: Google before doing!). This one I had in my kegerator, which was acting as a stand in for my fermentation chamber (aka freezer), which had been co-oped by my girlfriend for... freezing things. (Go figure.) Our place is to cold for ale fermentation right now, so I ("ingeniusly") put the flask behind the carboy with an aquarium heater in it, and hooked that up to a thermostat. Voila! Heater. It worked really well, except, in my exciment to show off the colour of my new stout to some Keith's drinkers, I forgot that the carboy was partially supporting the flask (it was balanced precariously on the compressor bump). When I began to pull the carboy out, the flask fell forward, clipped the side of the carboy, broke, and continued falling down, clipping my thumb on the way, and taking it just about down to the bone. (It was actually pretty impressive: it barely touched my thumb and still did serious damage.) The moral of the story? Don't show stout to Keith's drinkers (at least until it is ready for the glass!) :spilly:

I might be interested in another 2L and/or a 5L depending on how the numbers / minimum ordering quantities shake down

For the 2L ones, we were restricted by case quantity which I think was in multiples of four. AndyV is our guy for those, I'll pm him to confirm the deal is still in place and costing.

For the 5L's, our last run didn't have a minimum quantity but our deal was based on meeting a certain volume. I'll touch base with our guy to see what the current situation.

From here, we should move this over to the GB section.......
