How do you find its accuracy when reading liquids?

Hello Jimmy...I find it to be very accurate in all temp ranges hot and cold and use it to make sure that my temps are within the ranges that they need to be...Think I paid 39.99 for mine and use it around the windors and doors to check cold spots every fall and when I insulated the basement as I am finishing it...and 29.99 is a good price too...

For $29.99 that seems like a damn good deal... I was worried about it probing/reading the surface temp of the water and therefore displaying a temp that was significantly cooler than the temp near the bottom or heat source. Anyone confirm the reading from the surface is accurate enough... I do stir my mashes to start and my strike water in the HLT..

Hello erslar00: I think they are on sale again this week with a bonus stud finder as well...I use mine to determine my water temps when making my wort and when its right to pitch yeast mostly and I do stir before getting a reading to make sure I am not just getting a surface temp...The closer you hold it to the surface before getting the reading the more accurate it will read... :) Fever

OT: For some reason, whenever I use a stud finder, it just beeps constantly.
I wonder why that is...

I don't trust IR thermometers for true accuracy. They're good for quick and easy ballpark numbers, but unless you can program the emissivity (or whatever it's called) for the surface you're measuring the conversion from reflected IR to temperature will be off.
