Re: Home-Brew-Filter
You'll regret using that for beer. Plugs pads way too quick.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

Re: Home-Brew-Filter
We used to filter most of our beer with a plate filter and I agree it can plug way too quick - if you're not careful. I would say filtering warm about 50% of the time it would work awesome, 40% of the time it would take forever, 10% of the time you'd have to change pads half way through. Seemed to be dependent on how flocculant the yeast was for the most part. Then we started crash cooling the carboy with great success - then realized filter pads were expensive and since we were crash cooling it anyhow, might as well use finings. Once we started fining, we would still filter the odd beer to make it crystal clear. Now we never filter but use finings in conjunction with a keg outfitted with a cask widge and it works awesome!
Long story short, don't bother with the filter - there are easier ways to clear your beer without stripping out good things out.
