Kegs to trade for a 15 gal sanke

Post by macdonaldtomw » Wed Dec 14, 2011 1:53 pm

Hey,

I've got two 5 gallon sankes. I'm looking to get a 15 gal sanke to convert into a sweet brewpot. Anybody interested in trading?

I've also got a 15 gal sanke but it has the insulation crap on it (the rubberized shit that you need to hack off... plus the bottom is convex with the rubber stuff off).

Make me an offer.

-Tom

I phoned the kijij guy but he said someone was going to be coming by to get it tonight.

Metric... let me go check... there's two 30L kegs and a 50L keg. I just put them up on Kijiji too:

If you've got it on Kijiji you may not wish to be so explicit about the brand. The beer police may come after you.

It's no wonder that I can't understand Imperial/Colonial. Apparently 5 gallons = 30 litres, yet 15 gallons = 50 litres. This sort of inconsistency is also in the Extreme Brewing recipes. :?

Whichever brewery owns those kegs.

Yea, they're jerks about that.

One time I biked that moosehead keg all the way to their brewery in Burnside on my bike trailer. I stopped at every brewery along the way (Propeller, Sleemans, etc) and they all told me to just go to moosehead because they couldn't use a moosehead keg, but that my plan would probably work.

By the time I got there, it was lunch time and the only person around was this dinky manager. I told him that I wanted to trade kegs if possible and he told me that the keg I had was stolen property. I then proceeded to play the homebrewer card, explaining that I wanted an all metal keg so that I could convert it into a brew kettle. Befuddled, he told me that he had never heard of kegs being used for homebrewing before. :wtf:

I waited for him to go back inside and biked back home, with the keg.

It's not that they're being jerks, the deposit amount that bars and the NSLC pay for kegs is significantly less than the amount that the breweries pay for them new. So when they don't get the kegs back, they're losing money. I know we shouldn't be concerned about the big BCM breweries losing money, but the same deal applies to the smaller breweries too. I'd love to have some keggles to add to my brewing setup, but I do see the point in why they want them back.
