Hoptoberfest, Oct. 23rd

Just a reminder to everyone that our annual Hoptoberfest will be
happening again next month. While not exactly overlapping with
Munich's slightly larger festival with a similar moniker, this one
will prove to be just as fun! Lederhosen optional. This is a
family-friendly affair, so feel free to bring along non-beer spouses
(built-in designated drivers) and kids.

All homebrewers are encouraged to bring out their latest and greatest
creations of Pales, IPAs and any other style they wish. If this is
your first event, or first time bringing beers, don't be shy, we are
looking forward to meeting you and trying your beer! Even better if
you can bring the recipe to share with others. Kegs or bottles, either
is just fine!
If you are not able to bring your own beer, may we suggest bringing
out some food (sausages and buns were a big hit last year), snacks,
paper plates, or other necessities. And/or commercial beers you've run
across in your travels. Bring your favourite sampling glass or Stein.

We will be spending most of our time outside (weather permitting), so
folding chairs or leaning sticks are encouraged.

Remember to stay hydrated! We'll be sure to have lots of water so you
don't get parched trying all of the great food and drink.

Date: Saturday, October 23rd.
Time: 4pm - ??
Location: Kyle's pad: details on the list.
Please RSVP so we have an idea of how many folks will be attending.

For those brewers bringing beer, let's get a roll call of who will be
bringing what, and what they might need. And also what food people
will be bringing.

EZMAC (Erin and Chris): Bringing 2 kegs of beer (IPA and IIPA), in a
rolling cooler with CO2 tank and gas lines for 5. Picnic tap for only
2 kegs.

mmmmmmmmm, Oktoberfest.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do for beer or food yet. I probably won't be around till 7, although I'm going to try for earlier. I can pass of last year's sample glasses before hand though, so that's one less thing attendees will have to worry about. I'm going to try to get last year's picture up here in the next couple days.

Good memories!
Did we have proper sampling glasses? I forget. I do remember I brought my Oktoberfest stein, but I was too scared to use it. This year I won't be so timid!

Will you still be able to bring the tower and other rig? I'm waiting to hear back from Kyle on some of the details before I post another reminder on the BN email list.

I'm still waiting on the guy who is supposed to build it, but I am hoping it will be ready.

I've got a IIPA that's still going far beyond its expected FG. Currently at about 9%! I mentioned on the list that I'll be kegging it so I'll claim a spot on someone's setup or failing that I can just bring a bucket and some ice.

Hmm this sounds like an exciting first event to attend. I'll bring some food, as I haven't been able to get my beer gear started this fall, as I've just moved in to a new place and am very busy... Alas.

Those pics remind me, I forgot to Kill Robert this year. I guess I can be excused because I was so sure that, judging from the last one, Shelly was going to do it for me.

I love how Shelly is smiling with her mouth, but there are death rays coming out her eyes. (Robert took the pic).

Classic.

I'm trying to tee-up some goodies for everyone to try... but have no idea how many people generally come out to this thing.

can anyone shed some light on expected turnout for me?

Cheers! :ugeek:

Last year there were about 25 people at X's place.

I like how the bottom of the pic of Jeff blessing the masses blends into the top of the next picture to make it look like he has actually *GASP* spilled a beer...

Great night last night. So many amazing brews. The food was excellent expecially the sausage and the brisket. A big thanks to Kyle for hosting!

Feeling a little jaded today but worth it. Anybody for a spring do?

;)

Thanks again for hosting, Kyle! And thanks for the fire pit, Susan! Made the cold a little more bearable.

Picked up my gear ok, in case you were worried about all the clatter on your deck, Kyle. Did someone take an extra serving line home last night? I think I'm missing one. Small price to pay for a great night!

I think I left with that serving line on my keg. You'd switched mine out for one of yours because it was longer. I'm not sure where my original one ended up. Is it still there Kyle? If so I'll drop over and do the switcheroo later this week.

Right, now I remember. I had dropped yours in the icebucket to keep cool, so the line wouldn't get stinky. I looked for any extra stuff this AM, but didn't see it. Might still be in the big box, or somewhere safe. Hold onto mine until we find yours, no rush on it here.

Yes, I found it in the bottom of the bucket bathing in icy water. It's safe for now.

Thanks to everyone who came and had a great time. Thanks to Craig for the tables and fire wood. Thanks to John for the ice and Chris and Craig for picking it up.

Thanks to everyone who brought the great food and beer. Unlike that other beer festival, there wasn't a single disappointing one. Only one bottle was broken (not bad for a concrete driveway).

Thanks to those who brought plates and cutlery. There's enough left over for next year, so I'll put them aside until then.

The weather could have been a lot worse, although we did get chilly in the evening. The fire pit made it tolerable (thanks Susan and Ian). Maybe next year we'll have Hoptemberfest.

Thanks, Robert, for not picking up your keg until 4 p.m. That made cleaning up the backyard Sunday afternoon more enjoyable.

I'll post some pictures later in the week. Did anyone else take any?

K

I didn't take any pictures this year, so I hope you got some good ones. I have a lot more from last year that I'll have to get out. Thanks again for a great party.

Had a fantastic time; a big thanks to Kyle for hosting.

I only snapped a couple photos with my phone... so the quality isn't great, but here they are anyway:
