Learn to Homebrew Day - Nov 1

Post by chalmers » Wed Oct 15, 2014 11:17 am

Any new/novice brewers want to watch the brewing process in action, and feel free to ask questions?

Any veteran brewers want to brew with some friendly faces and new members?

Well, November 1 is Learn to Homebrew Day, put on by the AHA. http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/a ... ebrew-day/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Anyone want to attend? Anyone want to host? Any companies want to sponsor this?

I'll clear it with the wife but I'm willing to host. I'll be doing All grain Brew in a cooler, probably just a 5 gallon batch. May do a 5 gallon BIAB with it.

I'd like to attend. I'm trying to hammer out my process and watching more experienced brewers would be helpful.

I can offer my place if we want a Halifax peninsula location as well. Anyone care to brew with me?

I'm very interested, but what time would it be? Morning, afternoon?

I've got a couple of prior commitments (and only just discovered this thread now :P)
On Tap: What's a tap?
Bottled: Best Case Oktoberfest Lager
Fermenting: Festa Brew Double Oatmeal Stout
Planning: more extract boils

I'm out for hosting tomorrow. Going to be a fair bit of rain and I brew outdoors without cover.
Possibly reschedule this for another day.

There's a Brewnosers canopy floating around somewhere..might be a good use for it tomorrow?

If you are stuck I can mill your grains or lend you my mill. I have to do Halloween with my little one and then I am free. I can either drop it off or you can pick it up/mill your grain at my house. I live over toward Mic Mac mall so it is a short drive from the peninsula.

I no longer have to work saturday so I can brew if we make this thing happen! But still no mill. I'll brew at your place Kyle - I think you have a canopy correct?

Wow. I was about to give up on this but now it has come together. Now I have to get my shit together.

I have adequate coverage with an awning and a canopy. Alternatively I could clean out the garage and set up next door.

I propose starting around 10:00 (Liam are you up that early?) and running until the job is done or we're out of beer (to drink). Come and go as you please and bring beer if you can (I'm low so can't offer much to others). The barbecue will also be going so bring something to cook if you want to eat.

I'd like to do two batches of different styles to demonstrate some variety. I have enough gear to do two at once except for a second brew pot. Can someone lend me one? A grain mill would be helpful but we can get by with my food processor if necessary.

Tell your newbie friends about this because it's educational and not everyone on the forum is registered to read the events section.

Kyle do you still need a mill? I am heading over that way to drop my son off at his grandmother's and I can drop it off on the way.

I wish I could have joined. Ended up helping a friend put on his first beer, and installed his 2 taps.
