I'm not sure how much I can say yet, but there are other fun events taking place that weekend, and the Brewnosers were officially invited to come and take part. I don't think that means pouring homebrew at the 'fest, but it does mean taking part in other ways.

Anyone considering going?

Considered it, but Virginia is away that weekend.

I kinda really want to go. For $75, for four hours of eating and drinking, plus other fun events, I think it's a great deal. Could also correspond with a trip to the Townhouse on the way up for a Friday night cask tapping. The Big Man at Big Spruce is coordinating the beer side of things, so I think that speaks highly of it. Not on the beer list, but will be in attendance, is North Brewing. I will have more details for next week. In the meantime, I'll tease you by saying get to watching some punkin chunkin videos on youtube for inspiration.

We've been invited to enter the Pumpkin Launch. https://www.facebook.com/events/699336286807411/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Anyone interested in taking part in that?

I believe there will be a few folks coming into town for it, but I don't believe I'll be going after all.

With V away, Alex and I are on our own. Considering going up to watch the launches, but it will be a last minute decision.

Damn, I missed this post. I would have, but too late at this point. At least for my engineering and construction skills.

Reminder that tickets have to be purchased by the end of day today. I hope this event is a success.

I think they ultimately didn't sell as many tickets as they wanted, but this was a really well run event. Not a beer festival, really, but a great display of local food and beverage vendors. Roughly equal numbers of restaurants and breweries, and I believe all the food vendors were matched with a brewery to come up with their dishes. At least many did so. My favourite was a sushi roll done with smoked haddock that used a reduced Garrison Red in place of soy sauce.

The other thing I liked about the event was the timing - 4 hours vs the usual 2 and half or 3 hour sprints to drink as much as you can. The first 2 hours had a fiddler playing which was mostly some nice background noise, and then for the second half they had another band come up. By that time everyone was getting their fill of food and drink, so people actually took the time to enjoy the band. But at the same time, you could still mill about the vendors to grab samples without it being too loud to speak to them. All in all not a place to find and sample a ton of new breweries, but a good start on building a really good local food and beverage show.

I was visiting friends in Inverness that day and we went over to the pumpkin chucking portion. Big Spruce was sampling their Spiced Jack Pumpkin Ale.

My friend and I are already talking about building a pumpkin chucker for next year, and we hope to attend the Oktoberfest if they have it again

It'll definitely happen again, I was speaking with Jeremy Sunday.

Thanks for the report, Bobby, sad I missed it (only due to another event), also hope to take part next year. Let's plan on a Brewnosers entry into the Pumpkin Launch.

Great to hear the positive feedback on it. It's definitely on our radar for next year.

I agree this was a great event. The food and the beers were great. Not a huge number of beers, but I got to try some that I wouldn't have otherwise. It was also great that I got to chat with a lot of the brewers and chefs.

They were borderline with ticket sales for this event, I don't think they broke even. I hope it is better supported next year so it becomes an annual event. I imagine if it is marginal next year it will be scrapped.
