We have money, what to do with it
$510.02 is what we have. I was thinking about using it for prizes drawing a couple names at an upcoming event, maybe Hoptoberfest, maybe Christmas, whatever...
I am thinking brewing or cooking related prizes. Gift certificate to one of the local produce shops or NG, good cutlery (see my Japanese knife thread), maybe some nice glassware (Kiln Art makes really nice stuff), wrought iron beer rack for good beers, etc. Prizes with a local flare where possible.
My thinking was 2-3 prizes, and the names will be from those who have entered contests under the Brewnoser club name, or have organized group buys. What do you all think?
Also, we paid $95 for the server fees from that fund already.

Road trip to PEI for the Beerfest on Sept 7/8. No idea yet if any craft breweries will be here though

I believe everything is accounted for, but chalmers may know more. I have an additional stack of business cards here.
I had originally thought about paying for shipping, but that gets complicated, and virtually impossible to do on a fair basis.

I think paying for food, supplies, etc for events would be a good way to use it

Re: We have money, what to do with it
Yeah, that's been brought up too, but we've been doing a reasonable job of paying for those things as we've been going as far as I can tell. I thought the last Hoptoberfest was great financially speaking. I did want to specifically reward people for doing things for the club, as opposed to a blanket food purchase.

That's not an unreasonable idea.

Might make things easier to organize, and not everyone needing to bring it alll. Just a keg or a few bottles...things like ice etc could already be in place,

The other side of that most of us already own just about every piece of equipment there is, and are pretty good about sharing. Buying more stuff we already have doesn't accomplish much.

Why don't we build a club Jockey Box? We could use one at events, and lend it out amongst the crowd.

Well, we already have at least 3 out there, and the guys have offered to lend them before.

I believe the glassware order is still short. Use it to fill out the rest of the order, and use them as future prizes and keep some on hand when someone new joins/someone inevitably breaks one and needs a replacement?

Hookers and Blow!
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Re: We have money, what to do with it
I think something like 4 ~$50 prizes (no need to go huge, I think we'd all be pretty happy with any prize for just enjoying and helping out the club) at an upcoming event (Hoptoberfest) for folks that have helped out the club is a great idea. Could do another random 'everybody at the event' draw for another prize as well just for fun. So $250 for prizes, the rest for things like the beer glass top up, promotional materials (subsidize business card and sticker costs.. be cool to have a wack of stickers around!)..

Reading this thread makes me think that I should be paying dues. Is that correct? Don't want to be a freeloader... : )

No dues...it's money "skimmed" from each grain buy, just to help with needed supplies and to go back into the club.jason.loxton wrote:Reading this thread makes me think that I should be paying dues. Is that correct? Don't want to be a freeloader... : )
