Who's going? What day/time slot are you going? Did the price of tickets go up this year?

Saturday afternoon was the cheapest by $5. Plus seems to be the time to go - last year that was the only time the two nanos were there and fewer drunk shit heads :) I think I paid $40+ hst

We always take in the Saturday afternoon session. Haven't purchased tickets this year yet but plan too.

Hmm, I was skeptical when you said Sat afternoon was the cheapest, because I was 90% sure the 3 sessions were the same price last year. But you are exactly correct! $45 for the evening sessions, $40 for the afternoon. I'll be drinking at the afternoon session, might volunteer at the Fri evening session. Or something like that...

Unsure about Hell Bay, but I've got confirmation that Patrice of Acadie-Broue will NOT be there this year. He's got an Acadian Oktoberfest event happening right around then. So sad. :( http://www.oktoberfestdesacadiens.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The dates are completely different... or is the issue he can't donate beer to both events?

Stephen Beaumont.

He’ll also be hosting the “Rare Beer Dinner” at Brussels Restaurant.
Here's hoping they get this right.

I bought tickets to the dinner - have you gone to some of the ones they've had before and they were no good?

Last year's with Mittag was gross from the beer menu IMHO. You can take the frulli and shove it up your ass. I've had enough bad experiences at Brussels that they aren't getting the benefit of the doubt until I start hearing good things from people I know. Christ, they've misspelled dining room on their website for 2 years at least.

Hmm that is not inspiring! haha. I guess I'll see how it goes and report back. The whole ticket buying process was pretty sketchy too. Dude just wrote my name down in a random notebook.

:barf: the bathrooms won't be rained on that badly in the afternoon, thats why we always hit up beerfest then, plus less idiots and more true beer lovers. Hope lots of us can mass a mob and truly avoid the bud light and coors tents together!!!!

I've asked on FB.

Though they were held at Brussels as well, dont prior beer dinners scare you too much. I think Beaumont has his head on straight, so hopefully the beers he's able to get in, and the food pairings he chooses will be good. I'll probably go, but am waiting for the final list first.

Any word yet on the beer lineup for the dinner?

Edit: Read the Facebook page.
Should be ready to announce in about a week. Suffice to say, it'll be awesome!
This is the kind of thing that makes me nervous. Sourcing 'rare' beers this close to the event seems.... :?

I like beer fests of different kinds, and I'm sure this is quite a party, which is what most people want. But maybe some more special premium "side" events would increase the interest of Brewnosers and other beer geeks and beer media. Having Stephen is great, but they gotta have great beer, interesting beer, and great food. If I were the guest, i'd want to do it at Fid or Chives. or maybe Gio. And really push it using the wildest beers from Premiere. Maybe some year... And there should be special pre-event guided tastings set up, like verticals of special ageworthy beers, themed tastings like oak aged beers, sour beers, double IPAs or whatever. The market is there in Hali for this sort of thing. You just need to serve it.

Unfortunately, as always I am away in BC judging wine during this fest. But I will try to come down Thursday night to see Stephen.

Just for future reference, Dennis Johnston (Fid) is a fucking tool. :D

I don't know him but the food there has always been good. I try to keep those things separate in all of the arts. Some of my favourite musicians could well be jerks. Many artists are idiots. I don't really care, as long as they are not egregious criminals.

Seaport Beerfest

Post by Brewnoser » Tue Jul 17, 2012 6:24 pm

The beerfest is not designed for us. It's designed for people hoping to drink $60 worth of beer for $45. Until Propeller becomes a major participant it won't be interesting. Hell Bay are going. Rogues and Rock Bottom too!!!! Though somehow I doubt a brewer will be representing them.

I'd say that's half right - I don't see how Propeller is a game changer.
