Summer Fruitfest, Saturday July 21

Post by KMcK » Mon Jun 25, 2012 1:01 pm

We survived lagerfest, some of us even went to Big Strange Brew, and Hoptoberfest is still months away. Therefore we need a summer beer festival. Fruit beers have been suggested as a theme (but of course any beer you've recently brewed will be welcome). It will be prime barbecue season so the grill will be on. I'm willing to host. Which weekend shall it be? I'd particularly like to hear from the out of town folks who might be able to make the trek to Halifax for this.

TimG and I were talking this morning about a Summer beerfest. FWIW, I would like the event to coincide with the Barrel filling. Would July 14th make sense?

Im not able to make it the 14th. But for the out of towners it would be good to make it the same weekend as the barrell filling.

I don't know anything about the barrel filling. Are many people coming to Halifax for that? If so that day sounds good. It gives us almost three weeks to brew some fruit beers and make other arrangements.

14th may work for me. The out of towners could leave there beer and it could be barreled later.

Something tells me SWMBO told me to put something in my calendar for July 14th, but I obviously forgot to do it... I'll try to make it if I can

I'm likely out as the majority of my July seems to be booked up and it looks like I'm going to be needing to be putting in a lot of extra work time as well since I'm booked about 150% for the next month…

I'll be down that way the 3rd week of August on vacation, that's likely the only chance I'd have to make it.

Shane (and anyone else this applies to), if you're coming to Halifax we can have an informal get together any time with whoever's available. Just let us know when you'll be available.

I'm interested, but can't make that date. I'll throw together some sort of fruit beer for the summer soon.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

I can probably go whenever. I don't have any fruit beers on the go though, but I should be able to bring something.

I haven't heard any other date suggestions so let's go for it in conjunction with the barrel filling. More details to come.

The barrel filling date is currently up in the air so let's put his on hold until they work things out.

who's?
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
