Rogues Roost Thread

Not sure about being official.....

But the beers here are still very good. Went through a few on Friday afternoon, sitting in the window in the sun like a cat.

The Imperial Stout was really good, then I had another where I made the server put 1/3 raspberry wheat, 2/3 Imp Stout in the glass. Really good "Dessert Beer".

The IPA was, as everyone seems to want to say, not a really full IPA, but it is more than I recall (hadn't been in in a while).

They were sold out of Cream Ale. Very busy.

The red was maybe the best it has been in a while. On a handpump this would have been very reminiscent of a good pint of Bitter in the south of England.

The chicken wings were really good - the menu has changed a lot, and these were excellent.

This place will probably be gone later this year when hat building comes down, so maybe you might consider a visit. I think I'll talk to Lorne about a cask day with my handpump on the bar. Any of you who attended those a few years back will remember them fondly. Except for the Barleywine fiasco, where everyone in the bar, including most staff, were hammered. Barley Wine on a handpump shold be classified as a dangerous substance. :drunk:

So what's the story when the building comes down? Are they re-opening somewhere else - same building?

They've been threatening that for ten years.

The new TD building at Birmingham is the lynchpin. As soon as they move, things will supposedly progress rapidly.

Yeah, and from what I've been told, the TD move is coming along quickly. Equipment might be for sale....

Is the whole block coming down?

I believe so. Although I don't think the Fireside is affected. I could be mistaken.

Still digging for info. Chedrawe owns the entire block, including the Fireside, so I guess that means it's all coming down. If I find a link soon, I'll post it.

I like the Rogue for (ahem) window watching on Spring Garden. Learning that the building is coming down is kinda sad news to me.

Hell... I spent the better part of my engineering degrees in that place. It'll be sad if it doesn't re-open.

I talked to Chedrawe about it. Part interest in the pubs, and part because I don't want to see a gaping hole on Spring Garden for years after the TD moves out. He indicated that he's already working on the new building, and will look to start as soon as he can after the leases are dealt with.

Degrees? Plural? It took me 3 years to get through 2 years of 1. I can't imagine why someone would want more than one (and not because I couldn't do the work, but finally realized I couldn't stand the tedium).

A friend mentioned to me that on his last visit to the city, he thought the beers at Rogues had gone slightly downhill. Phenolic, was his call. Anyone have an opinion? I've found them to be clean for a long time, and my only complaint was Lorne under-shooting on style (less hops, alcohol than a style description suggests for a name). :cheers3:

Less hops for sure and not consistant flavor. Not bad flavor just not consistant.

My biggest beef is the service or lack of it.

I would concider myself a regular (some servers know my name and order, I feel like Norm) and most of the male servers act like I am a bother.

The food also has gon down hill aswell.

B I N G O

The food must have improved since I was last there in order to be able to have room to go downhill.

Was there on the weekend with a few BNs. We probably had the entire line-up between us. I found the RIS a bit thin, and tart. In Lorne's defense, it is getting old, so on the downslope a bit. We didn't order food, and the service was very good (but it was not busy).

I've found that when it's slow the service is usually pretty quick. On busy days they typically don't have enough staff to process the orders which results in lack of service.
