Why are you assuming it will be over by then? There's usually enough beer to last a week.TimG wrote:Have a blast without me folks! I will live vicariously through pictures and drunk forum posts as posted above..
PS: I'll still be in town the following weekend, 27th.. hope to bump into a few BN'ers at some point (actually going to be in Halifax from 25 to 28th).

We should bring this back into focus, all I know it's Sept 20th and Kyle is hosting. We should start planning as it's a month away.

Re: Hoptoberfest 2014
I brought it up, but didn't pursue it any more on Saturday: have we left ourselves enough time to organize some hop (or other) sausages, or getting meat to build some EPIC burgers?
Kyle, do you have a grill capable of cooking 20 burgers, or should we consider asking folks to bring their grill(s) to the party to increase surface area?

Re: Hoptoberfest 2014
How many people would we be feeding? If we could get some grills I could do up 50lbs of wings and use hopped spice as seasoning, or have someone create a hopped wing sauce. I've managed 11lbs on my grill before (which is toast now). However I don't want to grill all night, if we had a few grills we could get these done in a hour.chalmers wrote:I brought it up, but didn't pursue it any more on Saturday: have we left ourselves enough time to organize some hop (or other) sausages, or getting meat to build some EPIC burgers?

Don't mean to hi-jack this thread, but I'm thinking of trying to organize a late morning or early afternoon softball game before the fest, if there is enough interest of course. See here to discuss/express interested: http://www.brewnosers.org/forums/viewto ... f=5&t=6937

OK folks, we are one month out, and we need to start thinking about food and shelter. I've thrown together a sign-up sheet so we can gauge numbers. Don't worry about it being exact (last minute joiners are always welcome!), but do please sign-up if it is your intention to join us. Remember, the date is Sept 20th, so be sure to mark your calendars today.

Be sure to let Andrew down at Stillwell know. He asked me a couple weeks ago about it, they're great guests.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

Will do, though I'm afraid they might be going away to Portland for Zwanze Day.mr x wrote:Be sure to let Andrew down at Stillwell know. He asked me a couple weeks ago about it, they're great guests.

Hey Everyone,
Looks like I'm not going to make it this year after all. Turns out we're expecting a baby on the 19th. As you know I have one of the most understanding wives there is but I think this might be pushing the limits!
I may be able to drop off orders to ppl coming in from out of town but I won't be able to stay long if at all.
Thanks!

What if we brought the party to the waiting room? You could pop out to give us an update and a quick beer.EverwoodAveBrewShop wrote:Hey Everyone,

Although the lamb burgers a couple years ago still make my mouth water.

Brewing an English Mild this week that I hope to take to Hoptoberfest. Doing the yeast starter tonight and weighing out the grain.

Have you made that before? I'm interested in the design of the one you are doing. What do you have planned for it? Will it have the flavour a bit like tea with tannin like dryness. Are you putting in any toasty, caramelly, choclaty, or slight roast malt flavours, or are you sticking to the minimalist inexpensive beer that was a favorite of the working man, malt balanced with little hops, 2.8% - 4.5% ABV? amber to brown?Jimmy wrote:Brewing an English Mild this week that I hope to take to Hoptoberfest. Mark, it's going to be based on the BCS recipe and using 1968 yeast. Are you familiar with that recipe? It should have a bit of the tannin dryness you speak of because of the black patent malt. There's also crystal 60 and 120 in it along with some pale chocolate.

Re: Hoptoberfest 2014 - September 20th in Halifax
I'm happy to put out the feelers to food trucks, but I know that they will want to either (a) have a guaranteed minimum sales, or (b) want us to pay some or all upfront for them to show up. That's why signing up on the sheet is even more important. If we can guarantee them $400 or $600 or $1000 in sales, this makes our (and their) life easier. So please do sign up.Maritimer wrote:any chance we could organize a food truck to stop by for an hour or two for supper? #cheapcatering

Food truck sounds like a good idea if we can get one, and I'd be willing to prepay.
