I don't know. I imagine Daniel would love to do that! He likes to make some pretty cool stuff. His oak aged barley wine is really terrific, as is his Baltic Porter. And I think Hop Yard has been a perfect session hoppy ale of late... So, why not?sleepyjamie wrote:so im guessing we wont see any propeller/garrison collaboration ales?brufrog wrote:It is safe to say that John and Brian don't like each other. I wonder if you can just show up to try one or two of the beers, or will they only be poured for the dinner? I ask because most of the courses will probably be seafood-heavy, which I don't do...
The menu is out (may have been out for a while, but I'm just seeing it now). NO SEAFOOD.

So.. Looks like we won tickets to Friday night. We'd prefer to go Saturday night if anybody wants to trade. Alternatively we'd consider selling them to finance some Saturday tickets. I know most of you are going Saturday Afternoon, but it's worth a shot. Let me know if you're interested in going Friday, and we can work out a deal.

Wife and I are heading down Friday night, this is a rain or shine event ya?
Here is a question for everyone who has been before. The ones we have gone to for years in Toronto were 20 bucks to get in, but you bought tickets for the samples, some samples were 1 ticket some 2.
Is it the same way here or does that higher price point mean a different experience?

Yeah, it's a little different here. Once you're in, that's it - all the beer you want to sample for free.
In Toronto the brewers probably got compensated for their beer, haha.

I have one ticket for saturday afternoon I'm looking to sell off for face value $45.
Wife decided she'd rather be the designated driver and drink my beer at home later than endure the bus ride to sackville.

I'll take it if you've still got it. I'm assuming you're still going? If so, can we just meet onsite? Best to email/text me.know1 wrote:Lets make it $40know1 wrote:I have one ticket for saturday afternoon I'm looking to sell off for face value $45.

Re: Seaport Beerfest
The dinner was good but not great. All the food was quite delicious and the pairings weren't bad. I thought the apple beer at the start was gross, but did pair well with the salad. The final beer from Beau's was also quite odd - almost farmhouse ale like. I wouldn't be surprised is there was some brett in it - either intentional or unintentional. I drank my glass and then Gavin hated it so I drank his - by the end I wasn't such a fan either haha.
To sum up though - too many idiots there just to get hammered (and they did) and give me new silverware with each course. I might go again but will consider much more carefully the next time. I would sooner pay double the price and have the whole event be much better. It definitely has a lot of room to improve - more for the beer enthusiasts and not the geeks.
Oh and I think Gavin, Craig and myself were the only brewnosers there.

Took note of the menu pairing link - wouldn't mind trying the chorizo sausage and the Dominus

It was quite good - I liked the Dominus better with the sausage than just that beer on it's own. Although, I'm pretty picky of hoppy belgian beers - I also think the bottles they had at the dinner had a bit of age which helped balance out the beer a bit better than when it's fresh. I don't know that for sure, but it was my impression.thecyr wrote:Took note of the menu pairing link - wouldn't mind trying the chorizo sausage and the Dominus

Re: Seaport Beerfest
I had fun at the dinner. I like ephemere pomme, actually, and that was the best pairing, I think, with the salad. 2nd best for me was Dominus with spicy Chorizo. The lamb and Westmalle Dubbel was fine. I agree about the Beau's "Belgian" ale. Bone dry, bretty and lactic. Weird chice for a sweet dessert. It tasted OK with the pomegranate sauce, but not the cheesecake. It was nice to sit outside, although I could have done without the live rock music. Afterwards, Beaumont and I met Brewnoser at RB for some IPA and Stout.

Too packed. Very few beer I was interested in trying that I've not had. Don't know if I'll bother going next year... still an okay night out, I guess.

Re: Seaport Beerfest
Sat. afternoon: Between volunteers and attendees, I'd say there was over a dozen Brewnosers in attendance. No major line-ups to get a pour.
Beer booklet from previous years transformed into a fold out pamphlet, which disintegrated in the rain. No place to make notes or scores. Tickets themselves were smaller and not tear-off (had to give up the whole thing, no keep-sake).
They had the macros all at one end, right by the stage and porta-potties. Good place for them. The food tents were close together, so easy enough to find. Can't comment on the food, I had eaten lunch @ Rogue's beforehand.
Lots of good beer from Quebec (BdT {I think} Hopfenweisse, Saint Bock Malediction Stout), some interesting Ontario beers (Boneshaker IPA was pretty good, Lake of Bays IPA was not), Hell Bay's Smoked Rye was also good. Rockbottom's 2 beer were good, as was Rogue's Barleywine. I missed not having Acadie-Broue there.

Re: Seaport Beerfest
I had bought e-tickets for three of us. They made us give up the whole thing, no scanning. Could have easily gotten away with printing the same ticket three time. Probably could have gotten away with using an old print-at-home Moosehead's ticket to be honest. I was a little surprised by how little attention they were paying to this, haha. Sucks to be honest.chalmers wrote:Tickets themselves were smaller and not tear-off (had to give up the whole thing, no keep-sake).
I did like that the band/macros were all bunched together. I didn't stray too far from the corner that Quebec and Hell Bay were in for the most part - this was the least crowded area anyways! I didn't know Rogue's had their barleywine, I always really like that. Shame.
I really liked the pamphlet as a summary, but would have liked to have a book too... as if the margins weren't already large enough..
Chalmers, I think I missed you on the street after your beerfest and before mine? I missed someone waving at me who was a brewnoser who vaguely meets your description (so the wife says).. I wasn't trying to be rude, I was just in a daze for some reason.
