Kegger can give us specifics, but they're usually looking for $500+ in guaranteed sales, so we stl have a way to go.

Which area of the city will this be in? I would like to come, but need to arrange accommodations.

Re: Hoptoberfest 2014 - September 20th in Halifax
The upfront paying might be the biggest trick... but if it were $15 a head, that would only take 33 (point 33333..) people to accomplish. My ability to count may be impaired when drinking, but definitely seemed there were way more than 33, heck, even 34 people eating last year.chalmers wrote:Kegger can give us specifics, but they're usually looking for $500+ in guaranteed sales, so we stl have a way to go.

Maybe we can add a column to the spreadsheet for those willing to pay upfront for food truck service? If we have enough people, we can prepay and book. This would still leave it open to sales from people who hadn't committed up front.

Drunk me would rather pay for what he's ordered then. Plus what are our options? Do we have a menu we can prepay against?

Is Nick even interested in doing this? I though he had shut down for awhile.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I'm happy to contact any and all food tricks I can find, I needed some numbers before doing that. I'll start tomorrow. Post up suggestions.

I don't know a lot of food trucks but there is a good list here...https://www.facebook.com/events/304692313026337/
Food wolf has worked with North/Bridge brewing previously at events. (I haven't been there to sample)
To avoid having the food truck sit around all night a set supper time might be an option, maybe 2-3 hour window? 6-9pm?
also, it might be more appealing to them if there is a set meal, burger or sausage and a side or something like that, rather than an open menu. It would make their prep work easier and could get us all fed faster.
last but not least we should invite them hang out and enjoy themselves, provided there is no food truck DUI.

I've enjoyed food wolf's food the times that I've had it! I think it's about the right fit.

Huge Food Wolf fan, though throwing Nick some business (presuming he's interested) should definitely be considered

Food truck (food wolf or nomad would be best) with short open times and minimal choice would be great. However they are very visible, it could attract non-brewnosers to wander in to the festivities thinking it is public.
planning: beer for my cousin's wedding
Fermenting: black ipa
Conditioning:
Kegged: barrel barleywine from 2014 - i think i still have this somewhere

They wouldn't be able to park in the street I believe. Is there driveway/yard space they would be able to fit on?

You guys are trying to get me fined, aren't you?CorneliusAlphonse wrote:Food truck (food wolf or nomad would be best) with short open times and minimal choice would be great. However they are very visible, it could attract non-brewnosers to wander in to the festivities thinking it is public.
I have a double driveway so hosting a food truck should't be a problem, pending approval of the guys next door. If copius free beer is the hook to get one to come then the truck can stay here overnight. Just leave me the keys.
One of the trucks spends its eveings and weekends parked in a driveway a dozen or so doors up from me so maybe that one would be more inclinded to come the minimal distance. When I confirm which one it is I'll let Chalmers know.

Yes, I have a barbecue.chalmers wrote:Kyle, do you have a grill capable of cooking 20 burgers, or should we consider asking folks to bring their grill(s) to the party to increase surface area?
It's larger than most indoor appliances. If it had a motor it would be classified as a vehicle. It's the Ford Expedition (or Chevy Suburban) of barbecues.
I need to build an extra deck for it. It won't fit in my shed.
It has a rotisserie stick and it could probably fit a turkey inside.
In addition to the grill under the hood it has a big burner on one side. I could do an all grain brew on it.
It's propane powered and can be converted to natural gas (any decade now…).
The compartment down below can fit two propane tanks.

And thanks for the info re the local truck. Nothing positive back from trucks yet. One wanted 200 min people.

I do, but that's not the point behind asking a food truck to stop at our spot. They've got a proper kitchen and interesting ingredient choices that we don't have time to source, and I would rather not have to tend to a grill if it can be avoided.bluenose wrote:surely someone who's going knows who to make grilled cheese sandwiches

I had a sandwich from Halifax Press this weekend gone by - it was damn good. I would welcome that as an option!
Yes I'm sure someone knows how to make grilled chesse sandwiches, but that really goes for anything you would get from a food truck...

Re: Hoptoberfest 2014 - September 20th in Halifax
Or from a restaurant.
Or a brewery, if you're willing to travel far enough.
Having said all of that, I've heard back from 2 trucks who are booked up for that day (though one is willing to ask their fellow truckers at the NS Food Truck meeting tonight), and one who is available. If I understood correctly, that one requires a $250 fee to be onsite, and the food would be pay as you go.
I've chatted with our Meat Master about hop sausages again this year, we could do them for $5 per, and I would ask folks to bring a topping (kraut, onions, etc) or a side (Mac&Cheese, veggies, etc).
Thoughts?
