FWIW we were talking to Nash last night and he mentioned the barrells were +/- 45 gal, so that would make sense with the 180 liter (47.5gal) mention we got from Glenoramr x wrote:He did, but I want to make sure we have enough beer. I had been assuming jmac had brewed 10 gallons, which he did not. And I'm still not sure what to do with hogie's beer, kinda waiting for feedback from the other participants.....

Re: Barrel Filling - who's ready?
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Re: Barrel Filling - who's ready?
OK, I'm ready to get a quick brew on as previously discussed.
However, Does anyone have 0.60 lb of Special B they would give me? Also I'm all out of Kent Golding, but I have fuggles. Think that's a good sub? I may brew this late in the evening tonight or tomorrow to get a start on it.

I won't be in the city in time to be helpful on the Special B/Caramunich 120 (sub). And fuggles is a fine substitute.

Re: Barrel Filling - who's ready?
Ok, I have caramunich 120. That's fine (and I actually need 1.20 lb of special B, that was a mis-read).
Then what lovibond is the caramunich that is listed on the recipe?

50-60. You can get it at NG, but a regular crystal 60 would be fine.

If you come over anyway, I have some alpha amalyze for you. That may be what will get it kick started again. In that case it will be even better for the second barrel filling in a couple months. So all is not lost, you're just way ahead of schedule.

The AA is intriguing. Might be able to use that in a gluten-free recipe as well...

Re: Barrel Filling - who's ready?
I brewed 12 gallons the other day, It is chugging away in my food truck fridge. OG of 1.092 on a heaping kickstarter of S05 from Mr Nash!mr x wrote:He did, but I want to make sure we have enough beer. I had been assuming jmac had brewed 10 gallons, which he did not. Afterwards I split the mash and topped them off with 12 pounds of 2 row each and remashed at 155 to kick in the beta action.
I hopped it to 38 with magnum and citra to finish. Half is on S04 and Half is on T 58. Should turn out to be a couple of nice browns or there about.

Are you in town today? I'm heading to PEI this afternoon and will be seeing Hogie on Sunday, perhaps I could bring it over for him?mr x wrote:If you come over anyway, I have some alpha amalyze for you. No, I'm in NG. If went by the RB, you might grab some if Nash isn't too busy.

That would be fantastic if you could grab the AA Ben. But don't sweat it if it doesn't work out. I'll be in Halifax next weekend.benwedge wrote:I'll try to pop by quickly. Any idea if he'll still be there at ~3?mr x wrote:No, I'm in NG. If went by the RB, you might grab some if Nash isn't too busy.

Re: Barrel Filling - who's ready?
I pitched more yeast last Thursday but that didn't change the gravity one little bit.NASH wrote:No sweat on my end. Do you want yeast as well or have you already pitched more?
So yeast would be great too if you have something to put it in for the journey from Halifax to Charlottetown... The only live yeast I have access to ATM are Forbidden Fruit and French Saison. I could check with Gahan though.
How do I use the amylase? Add it and then add the yeast a day later? both at the same time? Other?
Thanks!

Re: Barrel Filling - who's ready?
Pitch the amylase when you get it, then some rocking yeast as soon as you have it ready. I'll gear up a bit of fresh US-05, I'd suggest whipping up a quick little starter, maybe a pint of wort for the yeast and let it get rocking, it'll likely only take a couple hrs, then pitch.hogie wrote:I pitched more yeast last Thursday but that didn't change the gravity one little bit.NASH wrote:No sweat on my end.
