Brewed using this method today at Learn2Brew and it worked pretty good.

Mash efficiency was 82%, I didn't squeeze the bag to get the .5L that I was short, but could have. I did a full volume mash, no sparge-no mashout BIAB style in a cooler. I didn't bother lifting the bag to drain the mash tun,I just opened the valve with the bag in it and let er rip. Once it was empty I lifted the bag over the kettle an gave it a twist - that's it (I don't know if I'll even continue to do that)

I'm thinking I'm going to like this method as it reduces the need to lift a heavy-ish bag of wet grain and should hold mash temps pretty good...it also doesn't increase cleanup time by much over the traditional BIAB.
I didn't notice on Saturday, but after your initial stir (with the giant egg beater) did you stir at all during your mash? And, when doing BIAB in your keggle, how often did you stir, if at all?

I just stirred during the initial mash in. Normally with the keggle I only stirred if I had to apply heat.

Does the cooler mash allow for 10 gallon batches?
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I don't see why not. A 70 quart cooler = 17.5 gallons, while a keggle is ~15.5 gallons. By using the cooler as a second vessel, it gives you the ability to batch sparge, thus reducing the space required for a full volume mash BIAB style.

keep in mind the grain is going to take up some of that space as well

Yeah, I'm just thinking that 10g batches are doable in a keggle, so the extra room would make it even easier.

Picked up some new material for custom hop sacks, it's more coarse than the BIAB material... Going to make one up for a trial and I'll test it out on my next batch.

gyorke's custom bag to fit the Ontario Beer Kegs 15g pot. It's got 4 tabs made to insert a carabiner or "S" hook through for easy lifting with a pulley.

I way over shot everything. Also the first time using Beer Smith. It (BS) was right I was wrong. I took your advice mashed in, got groceries, reheated, made lunch, had visitors, mashed out and boiled.

No effort compared to a mash tun.

Overshooting isn't necessarily a bad thing

Any idea what sort of efficiency you would have had?
