UPDATED - Monster Mill - Pre-Order OPEN!
Hi Everyone,
I've decided to run a larger pre-sale on the Monster Brewing Mills. This is a pre-order so money up-front, then mills when they arrive. We need a minimum of 3 to get this off of the ground. I've got a tentative cut-off date of November 15th and delivery will be 2ish weeks after that. You can pre-order the mills and get the finer details here:
https://www.everwoodavebrewshop.com/cat ... ing-mills/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Thanks
Dave

Re: Monster Mill Pre-Buy
Has anyone used a monster mill and a barley crusher? Wondering if it's worth upgrading from the barley crusher?

Re: Monster Mill Pre-Buy
The barley crusher (BC) has softer steel than the Monster Mills and I've heard the BC rollers may get dull and not grip the grain to pass through the rollers. I think I may be having that problem with my BC mill lately. They have a lifetime warranty though so I may have to contact the BC manufacturer and see what they can do.

Re: Monster Mill Pre-Buy
I have used both and my BC dulled after 5 years, I never contacted BC but after 5 years of abuse I was happy with the life of it. However, I love the monster. I got the MM2-Pro with hardened SS for the shop. Now I'm biased, and I do crush a few thousand pounds a month, but so far it's completely awesome. I've had it for a year now, on a motor and it's a beast.

What sort of benefit do you see, other than increased lifespan?EverwoodAveBrewShop wrote:I have used both and my BC dulled after 5 years, I never contacted BC but after 5 years of abuse I was happy with the life of it. Re: Monster Mill Pre-Buy
I had the OBKrusher (I should put it up for sale) and upgraded to the 3 roller MM1 and motorized it. I had a lot of issues with the other one not feeding anymore, the MM hasn't given me a single problem. It's alot faster obviously.
I'm not sure its worth upgrading if your not having problems (not sure how to measure the benefit).

Re: Monster Mill Pre-Buy
I have a different application then most but with that in mind the benefits to me are lifespan, speed and construction. The bearings on this mill are designed to be motorized so there shouldn't be issues with them wearing out prematurely. Also, the longer and larger rollers allow me to grind grain much faster then before. The rollers are also made from a much better material so there won't be an issue with them dulling as quickly as the BC ones. All three of those aspects also relate to lifespan generally speaking. The BC is a great product and the best balance between cost and function for most brewers, and like I said, I'm biased due to the fact I run a store and crush a significant amount of grain monthly. But in my mind there is no question that it is worth the cost, I don't feel like I paid for the brand name (like some brewing brands), but that the mill was worth the cost to me.Jimmy wrote:What sort of benefit do you see, other than increased lifespan?

Good info. I feel like I want one, but my barley crusher is working just fine...might be able to justify it if my efficiency would improve with the better mill.

Re: Monster Mill Pre-Buy
the three roller may help with that, not that I own any mill so take what I saw with many grains of salt, but thats what I've read online, you can get a finer crush, while still leaving the hulls intact
Kegged:
Bottled: Chocolate Orange Stout, Barkshack Sparkling Ginger Mead, Cherry Berliner
Fermenting: Fruit (havent decided yet) Lambic
Considering: Imperial Chocolate Raspberry Stout, Fir Tip Ale

Yes, I've read that as well - just wasn't sure if it's one of those "in theory" types of things.mthibodeau wrote:the three roller may help with that, not that I own any mill so take what I saw with many grains of salt, but thats what I've read online, you can get a finer crush, while still leaving the hulls intact

Re: Monster Mill Pre-Buy
I've been thinking about upgrading to a 3 roller mill as well. Wondering if a sturdy corded drill will be able to power the MM-3 SS or if it would need to be motorized?

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

When are you hoping to order?
Nova Prime Taproom
Tap 1: Festa Brew Scotch Ale
Tap 2:
"Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chamber of my brain -
Quaintest thoughts - queerist fancies
Come to life and fade away;
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

Re: Monster Mill Pre-Buy
As soon as I get some pre-buys! Min order is 3 for me so I'd like to get a couple folks on-board to help cover cost. I'm working on a few big things and capital is tight.

Any more word on the mm? I really want to upgrade my Corona mill soon. If we are out on the monster mills, then I want to place a order for the normal mill you sell.EverwoodAveBrewShop wrote:No Problem. That's one!

Re: UPDATED - Monster Mill - Pre-Order OPEN!
Dave,
I assume we are still good on the mills? I'm just getting excited as hopefully there is enough purchases to complete this order. It closes in 10 days, so maybe another bump won't hurt either.

Re: UPDATED - Monster Mill - Pre-Order OPEN!
Yes, still good on the mills! I'll be ordering them at the same time as the Blichmann order.
I'll be bringing in extra stock but if anyone wants to reserve one I highly recommend getting in on the pre-buy.
Thanks
