Has anyone else used Weyermann pale malt with a BIAB set-up? I got a bag recently and when I started using it I have been coming up really short on volume. Nothing has changed around my kettle so I'm pretty sure its not an evaporation issue. I had always used the Brewtoad default of 0.83L/kg but today use 1 L/kg and came up short. Most of the reading I have done seems to indicate I should be experiencing the opposite effect. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it!

I hate to see you hanging. I have no knowledge of absorption with the above malt. When I use my BIAB I set grain absorption as the same and have not had any issues. I have not used this malt. I always take my target volume in gallons plus boil off an then add ( lbs grain multiplied by 0.1 for absorption). Any idea what your volume was when you pulled the bag? Perhaps that could help you figure out what your absorption rate for this malt was. I always thought most grain would absorb roughly the same.

The funny thing here is this started happening when I switched base malts from Great Western 2-row to this Weyermann pale malt.

The next thing I have to do is measure the volume after I pull the bag. I was going to calibrate a dipstick for my kettle to do this. Right now I know what I start and finish with. Measuring the volume in between will let me know where I am screwing up.

Since I don't get to Halifax often, Jeremy (Big Spruce) sells me bags of malt. He started using the Weyermann a few months ago. I'm not sure if he is still using it.

I'd like to know more about that malt how is the beer? Sorry I can't help with the original question. Ask Jeremy if he knows and let us know maybe. You may be the expert on this here.

I'm going to hold off reviewing the malt until I relearn how to make beer. My last three batches with it, or with it as part of the base have been disasters. I'm on a roll!

Brewing is all about learning and I tend to learn the hard way as well. RDWHAHB!

Reviving an old thread here. I brewed with Weyermann Pale this weekend and did not notice any difference.

I have never used the Weyermann pale but I have used the Weyermann Pils and found it to be better than anything else I had used.
