Silver Solder for stainless spud

Gents,

I'm looking at sourcing silver solder for a radius spud to be fitted on my ss kettle. It's for the electric element Tri-Clover boss. I'm looking at Harris Staybright #8, which is apparently the best material for soldering 304ss. My local Moncton shop (Praxair) needs to order from the States, at a cost of about 100.00$.

Would anyone have another suggestion?

Cheers,

Chockpish

I ordered mine from eBay (awhile ago, prices seem to have gone up a bit). The flux is more important than the solder (you can find other silver solders that work well).

Still not cheap, but you can also get a small kit.

Thanks for the info Gents,

I am still debating between the silver solder or going for a tig-weld. It might be simpler to have it welded by a local shop here in moncton.

I'll keep you posted.
