Danby All-Fridge Kegerator project

Hi there!

A friend and I both picked up the danby compact all-fridge and we're looking to do a kegerator conversion.

We're both debating between putting in a tower or putting taps on the door. I've seen a number of threads with the tower jobby, but none with the pass-throughs on the door (at least not for this model). Has anyone here done that configuration with this fridge? If so, do you have regrets and or lessons to pass on?

If on the door, make sure your shanks are high enough to clear your kegs.

I'd go top mounted tower, unless you plan on putting your little fridge on some sort of a riser. Otherwise, you'll always be bending over to pour your beer...

Generally no cooling loops in the top. Only need a hole big enough to get the hose through, self tappers to screw the tower down and you're done, very easy. Much nicer looking job compared to having the tap coming out of the door, plus you gotta be a Smurf to pour, hehehe.

For anyone who installed a tower on top, did you have a template to know where to put that hole?

I followed a guide from youtube based on the dame model.

Put it near-ish the back. Putting it near the front makes it tricky to add on drip trays, etc. One of our two kegerators has a tower near the front (not my doing, bought it used) and I don't like it. We're likely installing a bar top over it though, so we can switch placement of the tower and hide the past error.

Agreed, put it in the back and center it between the back metal piece inside and the box on the top. I drilled a set hole from the inside up to ensure it was centered, then used a 2" bore drill to cut down. You will need to apply some pressure to cut through the metal sheeting under the top plastic and then ease it up before you hit the inside plastic as it could shear off and make a mess. Take your time and measure it multiple times, you will be cursing if your holes are too close to the metal sheet in the back and you have to bend it to get the bolts on the screws.

Oh, and you have to get a duel tower as it looks much cleaner than shanks in the door on a fridge that small.....IMO.

Personally I prefer the taps on the door. From a purely fun functional perspective. Can put the fridge under shelves, move it more easily, etc.

Also ignore messy duct tap reside on the top and stickers on the side... Maybe I shouldn't post pictures of my set up when people are wondering which way to go

I followed the link below, most of it anyway. I didn't do the messy paste, and I didn't put the marine plastic on the inside for support, I used bumper washers instead to spread the load.
My key was to make sure it was forward enough so I could get the bolts on without having to remove the chill plate.
Under the plastic top of the fridge is a piece of Styrofoam, I re-positioned it, cut a big hole in it and the tower lines pass through, did this for support.
I am personally a fan on tap tower, but that is a personal preference.
