Counter Flow Wort Chiller

Not much to do on a stormy Sunday, except for maybe finishing our house construction, decided to use some of the materials I had laying around to build a counter flow wort chiller. Basically, 1/2" copper tubing in 3/4" braided hose, 3/4" to 1/2" pipe reducer with 1/2" T, some PEX and garden hose barbs, cable ties and voila, counter flow wort chiller. Still have to come up with the connection to the boil kettle and some spigot arrangement to go into the fermenter.

Mental note, should I decide to do this again, I'll be using either 3/8" tubing or 1" braided hose. Shoving 25 feet of 1/2" tubing through 3/4" braided hose, even after the most ideal of lubrication conditions, almost killed my wife, vains popped on her forehead, the most evil grunting and several hot flashes. A little detail called surface tension and the ability of the braided hose to cling and almost suction cup itself to the copper pipe made for a most interesting afternoon. Thank God for my wife's help and encouragement, otherwise, we would have a new lawn ornament.

Can't wait to try it.
