Hole Punch?

Can anyone recommend somewhere I could have a couple holes drilled in a bayou classic kettle? I don't mind doing the smaller one, but the electric heating element requires 1 1/4" which I think is a bit much for a step drill.
If anyone has access to one of those cool green lee punches I would love to hear from you!
Cheers,
Greg

Greg, I drilled some nice 3/4" holes in my Bayou Classic pot with a step bit. Pictures here:

Haven't tried bigger holes though.
Nerve racking though. I love that pot. Thankfully it worked well.

Keep in mind these are conduit sizes (google actual hole size)
I've never used em for mounting an element directly.
Pm if you interested, I'm in Dartmouth. (Near mic Mac)

Hi AllanMar,
My kettle arrives today and I have the heating element.
Please let me know when a good time would be (and your favorite NSLC beer), and I'll pop by. I work in Dartmouth as well and could pop over after work, or whenever its good for you.
Cheers,
Greg

It looks like the conduit sizes don't quite line up with the exact size I require (1 1/4"). Does anyone have access to a 1.25" conduit punch?

I've heard of some people starting with a step bit then grinding with a dremel to the required diameter.

It is more time consuming but it does work.

Did you ever find any?
I'm in the process of upgrading my Electric Brewery with 2 new 30 gallon pots. The last time I punched holes in new kettles, I had an electrician do them for me, but was surprised when I received the bill for $100 for just 5 holes. I should have bought the punches in the first place, but I guess hindsight is 20/20.
I only need a 13/16" and a 1 1/4" punch and would be interested in going in with someone on this purchase - either by buying them used after, reselling, or renting... etc.

Yeah I did. RubberToe was able to hook me up with a 1.25" (he also makes a mean a-ipa). Not sure if he has 13/16 though. You could ask him if he would be willing to help you out

Thanks -- unfortunately my big pots are in Charlottetown and his punches are in Halifax and can't hit the road.
Looking for Plan B... Amazon.ca would be $180 shipped for the 2 punches I need.

If you end up going that route I can possibly help you out with the shipping from my Prime account if they're Prime items.

Thanks for the offer. I'm on a Prime trial, coincidentally!

IKEA and others state this will punch the corresponding sized hole through the deck of a SS sink. A pot should also be a likely candidate. If you only get a couple of holes out of it....Greenlee is mucho expensive and you have to be sure you are getting a standard 1 1/4" punch (radio chassis) and not the more common conduit style (bigger).

Wow, that is quite a find! Where were you about a week ago?
I bought both punches and have punched all the holes already. I'm contemplating adding 2nd elements to both kettles before I resell the punch, otherwise I'm done with it if anybody wants to buy a lightly used Greenlee 1-1/4" punch! I might hang on to the 1/2" conduit punch until I finalize the plumbing.

You can also go in a tool rental place, and you can manage to pay a few bucks to get the hole done quickly!
