Keg setup for camping

Not really a real DIY, as I didn't do very much except for ordering stuff online and driving around few shops around town, but I really like this portable keg setup that I "built". Took it camping all over the province this summer. Portability was key, as I had to take it on a canoe twice, and once on an atv, so lugging around a regulator and a CO2 tank was not an option.

Ingredients:
1x 2.5 gal ball lock keg from OBK http://www.ontariobeerkegs.com/2_5_Gall ... no-keg.htm These are now out of stock, but I am pretty sure the 3 gal will work as well
1x Ball lock MFL Gas disconnect, available all over the place
1x 5 gal home depot beverage cooler
1x Picnic faucet with beer line and disconnect
1x Keg charger + cartridges http://www.ontariobeerkegs.com/product_ ... harger.htm I found out that you can use threaded cartridges for bb guns with the keg charger, those are available at wal mart for fraction of the price that obk sells them for.


The keg charger, I always carbonated the beer before I left with CO2 from my keezer or priming sugar, so the charger was just there to maintain serving pressure.


And the whole thing assembled, you can easily fit a bag and half of ice beneath and on top of the setup. Keeps the keg cold for 2-3 days.


Overall cost was around $120, but drinking your own beer out in the woods is priceless

I've read that some of the walmart/etc paintball ones can contain oil. Who knows how true it is though, may just be an excuse to charge more for the ones that say without.

What's the remaining space at the top like? What would the odds of installing a shank\tap out the side be?

Probably 5 inches or so. Not sure I want a tap out of the side as that could get damaged/knocked off easily during transport, as it is now, it is all sealed within the cooler, and the lid is screwed on tight.

Yeah, heard about that for the paintball ones, but I haven't had any issues with these for BB guns.

I geared one up similar to this, saw it on youtube.
2 of the coolers so it will take one of my pepsi kegs.
Complete with cup despenser and co2 holder.

Cut the bottom out of top cooler, fits snug on top of bottom cooler, some M6 hardware to help keep it all together.

Looks great! Not as portable as I would like, but pretty good to be able to take a full keg somewhere. Is that a soda stream CO2 tank?

I looked at doing the half keg, but cost wise didn't want to.
We camp with a travel trailer so it is the last thing to get piled in.
The tank there is a 20oz paint ball CO2 tank with an adapter to fit a regulator.
Looked for JacPac, but seems I am a few years late getting into home brew for that!
My 1 year mark is this month of making and keging my own.
