eBrew Chaining Relays?

Post by thirdeye » Mon Mar 11, 2013 7:29 am

Ok so I skimped on buying a dual pole single throw switch, and have one phase of my power is hot all the time (I unplug it after use). I do have another relay which is takes 3-240VAC as the switching power, could I wire the relay up to switch on the other unswitched phase? Like this:

I don't think that will work.

You can't pass load power through the control side like that (red lead). (I can't draw anything up at the moment). The leads to your element need to come from the load side of the SSR only

I don't see why you think a second relay is even necessary. Are you using 3-phase?

Thanks for the quick answer! I guess I'll just use another SSR with DC switching. Can I link the two SSRs in series from the PID or is it better to go in parallel?

Parallel. You'll get a voltage drop before the second relay going in series.
