Hey all, I need to cut a 7/8" hole in my keggle for a new thermostat, but don't want to drop $50+ on a step bit if I don't have to.

Is there anyone near pictou county that can loan me something that will do the job?

Let me see what I can find here. I am assuming you can use a hole saw, that's what I use.

I do have a 1/2" drill and cutting lube, but I doubt I have a metal mandrel

I have a 1" hole saw if you get stuck and want to fill the hole with some silicone or something.

I used a 3/4" step bit and then dremelled the rest.

All I could find was a beat up 3/4" hole saw. IIRC, 13/16ths is a better size.

I did this last time and it was a PITA, would rather get 'er done with one go. It's also why I'm now anal about precision.

Good to know. Looks like I'm going for the $65 step bit... unless someone knows where I can get it cheaper than CT

Probably doesn't help, but I think PA has 7/8" step bits as well, with 13/16" as one of the steps, $19.99

If you don't have access to one, I might be able to help, I go to Pictou Landing periodically my folks live there.
