I am contemplating a small setup to dry hop in my fastferment (5gal batches) without having to open the lid... I was thinking a stainless steel ball (used for tea normally) with some rare-earth magnets inside. Using a large rare-earth magnet on top of the FF lid and when the hops are ready to be dropped, just removed the large magnet.
I know the good stainless is not magnetized, so my question... Will the rare-earth magnets inside the stainless steel ball taint my beer? is there a better way without opening the lid?
Please remember that I am very very new at this... LOL

Just an FYI, most of those stainless tea balls won't hold much for hops - hops absorb a crazy amount of liquid and will quickly expand inside the tea strainer.

I don't know anything about the FastFerment, but I wouldn't worry too much about opening the lid for dry hopping....

I open the lid in my FF to take a sample to determine if primary has finished and I've never had any problems with it. I have to do the same as you in about 5 days to add Cacao nibs.

Not sure if you are interested in anything already available of if you are more interested in DIY but Fast Ferment makes a really nice SS hop filter for their FF conicals. These fit both the 7.9g (30 L) and the 14g (53 L) fermenters. Here is a link if you are interested in checking it out:
