"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Is this the High temp wire you were talking about? If so...I'd be up for 20ft as well.

I don't think Jayme needs any but we all do haha. I want some but don't feel comfortable enough with wire sizing to know exactly what we can get away with.
planning: beer for my cousin's wedding
Fermenting: black ipa
Conditioning:
Kegged: barrel barleywine from 2014 - i think i still have this somewhere

I can check the wire size I use on my current 5500W element when I get home.CorneliusAlphonse wrote:I don't think Jayme needs any but we all do haha. I want some but don't feel comfortable enough with wire sizing to know exactly what we can get away with.

Re: Hot Rod Heat Stick powered Brewery
You might be able to get away with a 12awg teflon wire (I can work it out) but 10awg is not that much more and would be a better bet. Brian - your element is probably wired following CEC, but CEC is for a building. This is a closed conduit with very high ambient, so you really can't follow CEC for that (I would maybe make sure you meet it, but in reality you need to exceed it).
Liam is right - not buying any wire for myself, just trying to help! haha

Even in a group buy with just the 3 of us it'd be around 50 bucks for about 33 feet each from that first link

Any more thought on a group buy of some of the wire mentioned above?

I've put the word out with a few electrician friends to source some without any luck. That said...I'm in truro and options are pretty much non-existent.

Made some progress on the kettle end of things:

19 Gallon Everwood Kettle with weldless ball valve from Noble Grape. Heat stick fits perfectly.

Thanks, it's coming together. I'm waiting on a side pickup tube from OBK and a bulkhead for the lid re-circulation system from Dave. I also have to install some high temp silicone wire before I take it up to a boil. Until then I'll be mashing in it only.evanisnor wrote:Damn that looks rad!
