I personally would prefer stainless if possible

Re: Sanke thread
I'm confused - is this to gauge interest for a group buy for parts to convert sankes? I'm somewhat interested depending on the cost. I'm not really set up for cleaning sankes at the moment, but if it seems like it would be cheaper to set them up now for use later, I would be game!

Re: Sanke thread
My interest was mainly in building a custom cap with an NPT port so I could switch from airlock/blowoff to a corny gas post for pressurized transfers and a second port to hold a racking cane or dip tube for the liquid transfer and possibly yeast harvesting. I like the idea of the brewershardware.com kit, but I can't force myself to pry open my wallet and spend $80+ on a tri-clover clamp, gasket, and cap.

Re: Sanke thread
I've also been thinking about possibly putting a valve and rotating dip tube near the bottom of the keg, like you would for a keggle and have the blow off/gas port in the port on the top of the keg. The only issue would be trying to get the fitting installed on the inside of the keg, working through the opening at the top. Seems like it would be a huge PITA.

Re: Sanke thread
The top system can be done for a better price than that. Talk to jmac about where he scored the triclover gear. I can help with the rest. Your second idea can be done as well - you can drill and tap sankes enough for a fitting if you are careful.

Re: Sanke thread
Thanks X. I think Sandy had a line on some cheaper tri-clover gear as well, but I'll have to remember to bend jmac's ear at the next Brewnoser grain pickup/event I make it down for.mr x wrote:The top system can be done for a better price than that. Re: Sanke thread
Just send him a note. He got it locally, so you could pick it up ready to go at the same time if you decide to go that route.

Done.
Might as well just get off my ass and get these built.

Re: Sanke thread
Guys.
I think the price was $9 or $11 (can't remember).
Lets try to work as a group and make a few of these and share the pain/expense.
I have some tooling but I think a drill press would be a nice addition for this project. Taps and dies as well.

Re: Sanke thread
For sure, I'm still at the idea gathering stage. Just want to make sure that what I put together will do everything I need the first time since time and money only allow for one shot at it at this point.GAM wrote:Guys.

Another site if local doesn't pan out:

Re: Sanke thread
brewhardware.com also sells a clamp, silicon gasket, and blank for $22. Hopefully we can get those three parts together locally for under $20.

Re: Sanke thread
That gasket will likely be no good, but there is a better option.

Re: Sanke thread
I'm interested if this, if this is what we are talking about. I got a little confused earlier on in the conversation. I also like Sandy's idea of getting it done together so we can make them right. Fermenting in kegs seems like where I want to go somewhere in the future, might as well make that now.jeffsmith wrote:My interest was mainly in building a custom cap with an NPT port so I could switch from airlock/blowoff to a corny gas post for pressurized transfers and a second port to hold a racking cane or dip tube for the liquid transfer and possibly yeast harvesting. Re: Sanke thread
I'm interested as well

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Re: Sanke thread
That's the direction I want to go. Preferably something similar to JohnnyMac's setup in this photo:Graham.C wrote:I'm interested if this, if this is what we are talking about. One port with a racking cane/dip tube and valve, the other threaded for blow-off tube/airlock that can have a corny gas post screwed onto it for pressurized transfer or yeast harvesting.

I don't think you'll need sanitary welding anywhere.

I've bought a fair bit of TC from brewers hardware (great ethics/service, but very slow to respond) and also got some from glacier tanks. I couldn't find anything local that was comparable. At the time I couldn't get a hold of anyone at purity, nor did they return my messages. Clamps go on sale for good prices on ebay fairly often. picked up a lot last time, worked out to $3/ea shipped.
Bought the odd item local from DaRose's in Bedford also, prices weren't great.
