The brass should be soft enough to "tap" with a NPT bolt.

lol sorry you got me all off on a different wavy length thinking about tapping and nuts
you mean that you think the brass would accept a npt nut over it?

kind of a MacGyver/Ghetto approach but you might be able to secure it with a set of vise-grips around the tube on the underside out of site.

Re: Basement Bar Build
i was wondering about drilling a hole in the pipe
and then like sliding a long piece through the holds on the bottom
so it can't move
not sure i am explaining right
but yes
the bottom is hidden so if i HAVE to i can ghetto rig something

Re: Basement Bar Build
You could do that, but, I bet that it would be loose and wiggle a bit.
I'd just order the proper nut from eBay.

line the 1" mark on your tape precisely with the peak of a thread. Count the threads to the 2" mark, if its exactly 11 with the peak on the 2" mark its BSP, if the 2" mark falls on the valley after the 11th thread its NPT.
And by your pic it looks like 1-1/2" nominal diameter

ok so exactly 11 ridges in an inch
which makes it BSP correct
so i am looking for a 1.5 inch bsp nut thingamajig
or more correctly
this

yup, looks good to me! Before ordering I'd first give a couple plumbing shops that sell fixtures a call, Emco, Wolseley etc. they might have some spare parts on hand locally.

Re: Basement Bar Build
You wouldn't even need teflon, It should start easy, then quickly get tight and stay tight. You'll just have to make sure you keep a bit of downward pressure on the nut so that it cuts a new thread instead of tearing the threads out of it.

Re: Basement Bar Build
Probably, I'd order the eBay nut to have as a permanent solution. You can try the plastic nut idea for now, the threads should be soft enough to go on with some force.Downs wrote:chris - i think based off of what know1 said they are bsp

Re: Basement Bar Build
This might be a stretch, but you might find a nut to fit it at a pool supply store. The salt generator I have for my pool has a similar sized threaded piece and I can only find replacement parts at the pool store I got it from.

Re: Basement Bar Build
looking good
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
