Sounds good. If you don't electrocute yourself, that isjtmwhyte wrote:I am probably going to finish assembly in the next week or so. I'll boil a batch of water to test boil of and then pull off the main event. I'm thinking Pilsner with a double decoction performed in the cooler to toss on my Vienna Lager yeast cake (did a 3 gallon batch a week ago). Maybe we can collaborate after that on a large batch.

That's an ominous thing to say, lol. If it's all solid wiring and properly grounded and sealed everything should work well

Started assembly this evening. I slapped some JB Water Weld inside the box and pressed it into the creases. Its temp rated to 300F and is food grade when dry.

It really hard to tell from a pic, but you may want to double check those crimps. The crimp should be closer to the ring side, as they are not all metal (the last 1/4 or so is usually just plastic)

I did crimp right against the edge, but I agree that the pic is confusing. I taped them up pretty thoroughly.

I like to see wire out the tab end, and crimped very close to that end.

Started assembly of the control box today. I got a basic project enclosure from Central and drilled it out with a step bit.

Well, it's a tight fit, but it's wired. Does anyone see any reason why I'd electrocute myself by plugging this in? The Element box is water tight and is botled to the kettle.

No, but have you heard of the one hand rule? When working on electricity (particularly live circuits) that could be lethal, tuck one hand behind your back and work with the other. If you do get a jolt, it's likely not going to go across your heart that way.

I'm just a touch paranoid of 240v. I'm sure everything is secure, but the thought still crosses my mind that any interaction with that much juice would be unpleasent to say the least.

If it makes you feel any better, assuming you don't manage to touch both legs of the 240V at the same time, youll only get a 120V shock...jtmwhyte wrote:

I did hear that... Also, if you jump into the air whilst you turn the knob, you won't get electrocuted eitherJayme wrote:No, but have you heard of the one hand rule? Must jump from the same foot as the hand tucked in your pants. Plus the second finger from the left or right (depending on which hand it ISN'T) must be extended through a hole in your boxers.

This is going to cut down my brew time considerably. I boiled 7 gallons of cold tap water in just around 23 minutes last night .

Sweet. I'd like to brew one more batch before I start cutting holes in the keggle.jtmwhyte wrote:I'll gladly help you out when you're ready. I've got tons of o-rings as well (I only used one in my setup along with half a tube of JB Water Weld.
I think the only materials I need are the o-rings and the 1" locknut. So, I'll order that from OBK today.

I might have a 1" locknut at the house. Cut some gasket and you're set for the weekend.
