My next project -Pinball Machine Coffee Table

Post by Downs » Mon Feb 18, 2013 5:17 pm

So I have this play field from an old pinball machine.
It's in a frame and looks pretty cool.
My plan is to "knurl" the sides so i can cut them down so a piece of glass can lay across the top.
then I plan to add 4 legs

anyone good at knulring ?
wanna knurl for some beer LOL

LOL oh my lord, that is hilarious.

So yeah I dont know if "knurling" is what I need to do.

I need to get glass on top of this frame, somehow.

I'm not sure knurling is what you'd need. Isn't knurling cutting a diamond pattern in a metal cylinder?

hmm you may be right jeff
my buddy has this ... cutter
that will do what i need i thought he called it knurling
but ya when i was in high school in metal shop we did knurling on the metal lathe

any other ideas? i could put glass over the whole thing and maybe glue it to the wood ?

I believe what youre looking for is a router w/ rabbetting bit. To set the glass inside and flush with the top?

YES that is what I am talking about
cut the edge of the wood border down say 1/4 of an inch
so the glass is flush with the top of the wood
bingo

Just an update ..

Table is now a table, bottom added, legs stained and attached.

Now just waiting for the glass for the top.

Did you order glass?

I have dome plexi you can use. It is thin though.

I've got a quote on some tempered, glass guy felt that it needed to be that to be strong enough for putting glasses down and stuff.
