I decided to create a new thread for this year given that the beer is definitely different and it'll be easier for people to find this way.

The original recipe is "Dick's Elixir Wheat Porter" from Randy Mosher's book "Radical Brewing" (great book, highly recommended). It is slightly modified from the original based on available ingredients and recommendations in the notes. I also forgot the oats this year (Oats, Flaked 3.5% - Toasted at 300°F until smelling like cookies) and upped the hops just a little bit (both bittering and flavor/aroma).

Specs:
  • Batch Size: 20.82 l
  • Boil Time: 90 min
  • Efficiency: 70.00 %
  • Est Original Gravity: 1.073 SG
  • Est Final Gravity: 1.023 SG
  • Estimated Alcohol by Vol: 6.9 %
  • Bitterness: 28.2 IBUs
  • Est Color: 26.5 SRM
Grist:

  • Munich Malt 27.7%
  • Pale Malt (6-row) 20.8%
  • Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L 10.4%
  • Carafa Special II 3.1%
Hops:
  • Northern Brewer [8.5 %] - Boil 90.0 min 16.1 IBUs
  • Northern Brewer [8.5 %] - Boil 10.0 min 5.5 IBUs
  • Hallertauer [6.70 %] - Boil 10.0 min 4.3 IBUs
  • Tettnang [3.60 %] - Boil 10.0 min 2.3 IBUs
Misc:
  • 1.00 tsp Irish Moss (Boil 10.0 mins)
  • 1.00 tsp White Labs Yeast Nutrient
  • 1 capsule White Labs Servomyces
Yeast:
  • English Ale (White Labs #WLP002) 2.0 L Starter
Mash Steps:
  • Protein Rest 54.0 C 30 min
  • Saccharification 66.3 C 60 min
Actuals:
  • Brewed November 1, 2015
  • Measured Original Gravity: 1.072 SG
  • Measured Final Gravity: 1.011 SG
  • Actual Alcohol by Vol: 7.4 %
  • Bottles November 24, 2015
For those that are curious, the label is a straight gank from the Adult Swim cartoon "Frisky Dingo" which was created by the guy who went on to create "Archer". If you like "Archer" you'll probably enjoy Frisky Dingo.

Shared it with my brother last night. We both enjoyed it. It had some unique characteristics I was unable to identify but the glass was empty quick. Thanks!

Great beer. Very nice balance with good flavors from the malt, hops and yeast. I drank this one fast. Cheers

I had a taste. Erin robbed me of it and promised me a 'fun time' to give it up. Needless to say.... Giggity... best beer yet. Lol

Nice beer. Really enjoying it. I can get some warmer alcohol notes, but it's a well balanced beer. The hop bitterness and malt really nicely balanced. Thanks!

This is a nice beer, I like this one. Big malt aroma, nice balance, easy drinking for the strength. I like creamy mouthfeel from the wheat too. I may have to try making something like this sometime. Thanks!

I enjoyed this beer a lot. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel was spot on. As others have said very very nicely balanced. I was guessing that the dark malts were dehusked while I was drinking it so I'm pleased that I guessed correctly. Very gentle dark malt flavour. Loved it.

Drinking this tonight, it's good, a little astringent on the finish, but nothing that keeps me from taking another drink!

I got to split sandy's while we were brewing a while back and thought this was really good. I love wheat in beer and hadn't gotten to try a darker example with wheat yet. I want to try a wheat stout now.
