Mashed in with 18.25 L of water at 154 F
Mashed out with 14.2 L of water at 168 F

90 minute boil
20 g Perle @ 60 min (8%AA)
60 g Saaz @ 30 min (2.6%AA)

1 package Wyeast Bière de Garde #3725

Now that the exchange is on Nov 29th I'm going to squeeze another week in the fermentation chamber for this one before bottling.

Definitely not familiar with this style. Getting some kind of fruit in the aroma and almost a red wine/tart kind of taste that based on the malt bill I assume must be coming from the yeast. Not the kind of thing I would typically go for. Thank you for sharing.

This may be the second one of this style I've ever had. This one is way better than the last one! I'm enjoying the subtleties of this beer Peter. Nice clean beer with lots of flavor angles :cheers3:
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Nice big carb character, light toast malt, but not sweet. Enjoyable yeast spiciness. Was drinking this while reading the style guideline, as I also don't have a lot of BdG experience.
Ticked all of the right boxes for me in the style, thanks for brewing!

Noticed some green apple at first, but it didn't detract from anything. Loved the colour and the little hint of spice. Some nice warming alcohol too. I've only tried this style once before and wasn't a fan. Yours was great.

Glad people are enjoying it. My first time making this style and I've really only had a handful or so of commercial versions myself.

FG was 1.007 so calculated ABV was 7.2%.

Yeah I like this Peter! Just getting around to it now because I had some spicy Korean noodles for dinner that I didn't think would pair too well with this beer. I like the idea of a malt-forward beer that is really dry - every sip entices me into the next. What temperature did you ferment at? I am brewing a biere de garde tomorrow with a fairly different recipe. I'll save you a bottle!
Enjoying: Black Sheep (Dark Farmhouse with Brett)
Fermenting: NZ Pale Ale, Orval Clone, Berliner Weisse, Brett APA
Planning: Old Rasputin Clone

I liked it even through I was skeptical about the style going in. It had a nice fruitiness and the malt wasn't overpowering. I really liked it, thanks!

Don't know the style except for Boxing Rock's version, but definitely enjoyed this.

Mine was dead flat. The cap was loosely on. Very fruity, malty with a nice hop and possibly alcohol bitterness to balance it all out. I'm sure this beer would have been fantastic carbed up.

Thanks Lucas. I fermented at room temperature for a couple of weeks and then 3 weeks in my ferment chamber at I believe 14 Celsius (I will have to check my notes at home).

Oh sorry to hear that Adam. I tried to check all the caps as I boxed them to send to the swap. Would be happy to hook you up with a properly carbed bottle.

I'm so far behind! Going to be a long day of calander beer! Style accuracy aside - this beer is fantastic! Fruit notes and light biscuit on the nose. A whole array of flavours, alcohol noticeable but balanced well. It's very easy to drink.
