no scale Barleywine

Post by CorneliusAlphonse » Tue Nov 13, 2012 10:51 pm

makin a barleywine on Friday. my brother has my ingredients, but no scale to weigh them with. here's what ivegot so far:
8 quarts ish Maris otter
3 good handfuls chocolate malt
1 good handful roast barley

the rest I have to get from noble grape. thinking:
-some LME for OG
-some crystal malt (30 and 60)
-some oats and or carapils for body/head retention
-some hops n yeast

whether this beer is good or not, I'll likely never be able to replicate it
planning: beer for my cousin's wedding
Fermenting: black ipa
Conditioning:
Kegged: barrel barleywine from 2014 - i think i still have this somewhere

Why not just buy a scale? They had the 5 kg Starfrit ones on sale at Canadian Tire recently. They might still be. Seems a lot of effort and money on ingredients to risk...
