Hoppy Brown Ale?

Post by TimG » Wed Oct 31, 2012 11:57 am

So thinking of brewing this soon;

Image

Looking for a light / lowish' malt Brown with some hop aroma. Is this enough late hops you think? Not looking for a bomb, but want to be able to taste/smell them.

Also, hoping to get a slight/sweet honey taste from the honey malt.

Thoughts?

Yeah, don't know what to tell you. Brew it and tell me. :thumbup:
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

I do a hoppy brown with Chinook at 60, Centeniial at 30 and 0. I aim for 50IBU's but have done everything from 30 to 80 (calculated). Then I dry hop it with a mix of centennial and citra (120g each). It comes out so-so but ages really nicely. Becomes really good around 2-3 months. It's still a work in progress but I would like to share notes.

I plan on re-brewing the last one I did, but with pale chocolate this time and maybe a bit of brown malt.

Updated recipe above with some hops I had on hand. Mashing now. Nice warm evening for a brew.
