I have so many butternut squash this year I don't know what to do with them.

Pumpkin seems to be a popular adjunct this time of year, but has anyone ever made/tasted a squash ale? Is it any good? Should I bother trying to make something with them?

I've made delicious "pumpkin" pie with butternut squash nobody (in my family anyway) can tell the difference. It would probably be the same in beer... i'd give it a shot, no point in wasting all that beautiful squash.

If you look at the ingredients of canned pumpkin pie mix, it's often squash... I know people who swear that squash makes the best pumpkin pies, anyways.

I had jolly pumpkin's sour pumpkin beer on the weekend and it was great! Sounds like you've got a solid plan there :rockin:

Butternuts and most winter quash keep really well, so you could just store them and enjoy them over the winter...unless you have more than your family could possibly eat. Just pack them loosely and stuff them in the basement or attic (provided it doesn't freeze) [reference: http://www.nwedible.com/2011/11/storing ... quash.html]. They make great pureed soups, though I enjoy them most baked with a little butter and brown sugar. I'm all for beer, don't get me wrong, but prefer my squash as food.
