wow. was your volume a bit low? i ask cause my buddy had the opposite happen - he was brewing a barleywine, shooting for 5 gallons 1.100, but ended up with 6 gallons of 1.080BBrianBoogie wrote:80%, ended up at 1.112

And that is the usual result. But anything can happen. yeah indeed. i was expecting his gravity to be low due to poor efficiency, but instead it was low because he didnt get the boil off expected - he used the lid because stuff was falling off the trees. he is kind of a haphazard brewer anywaymr x wrote:And that is the usual result. Pretty much. Don't worry, I pitched a half packet of yeast and shook for 10 sec. Now fermenting at 97F so it should balance out

Exactly right which is why I tend to spare more, boil longer on beers this size to keep efficiency from taking a nosedive. Usually end up in the 70-73 range on beers this size but this time wound up a little high.

Got mine done today, came in at 24.1 P (1.101 SG) so pretty much on target.
Although I know it's gonna be a while, really looking forward to the first drinks of this bad boy.

We've decided we're going to do a partigyle with the second runnings. Who wants to be a dear and tell us what kind of beer we'll end up with? Assuming 60min @12% boil off, going to add 27L.

Ain't no haters here. I'm down with it long time, lol. I plan to let this beer carb properly for a month or so, and then I'm caging and corking it, and then it's sitting for 3 years at least.

Aaaand, we're boiling. Pre-boil gravity was 1.078 (on target, though it sounds low), and we've got 90min to go.

So we brewed up the Glen Rizzle last night. Hit the target efficiency numbers but ended up with too much wort post-boil. Didn't notice that the propane was low for the first part of the boil...
