Brown Ale

OG: 1.048
FG: 1.014
IBU: 24
SRM: 21
ABV: 4.5%

Recipe was for 5 gallons.

Grains:
7.50 lb Pale Ale (83.3%)
0.75 lb Crystal 60 (8.3%)
0.25 lb Golden Naked Oats (2.8%)
0.25 lb Chocolate Malt (2.8%)
0.25 lb Pale Chocolate Malt (2.8%)

Hops:
2.2 oz Hallertau 4.4% (30 minutes)

Water:
Well water with estimates for mineral content and some chalk, calcium chloride and baking soda added. Probably moderately hard without too many carbonates.

Yeast:
Escarpment Labs Krispy (the older blend, before they redid it)

Brown ale’s are a style I don’t gravitate to but this is a gem. The chocolate and caramel malts really play off each other well. I get some dark fruit character as well that rounds this beer out. Great carbonation, clean and refreshing. Great beer!

Brown, Red ales are not on my radar either, so this was a refreshing change, I sipped on it slowly in case it was another well hidden high abv brew. only after drinking do i scan everyone's recipe for ideas and inspiration. my palate isn't refined enough to detect alot of the malt action subtleties, ....i just enjoyed the brew!

Nice simple brown ale with great bitterness to balance it all out. Enjoyed this one this evening.

I am finally going to finish commenting on the brews I missed. Sorry for the long delay...

This was an easy drinker - the malts worked very well togethet. I have a friend from the UK who moved to Canada whose wife has been looking for something like this - under 5 %, simple and balanced.

On a side note, I'd never heard of "Naked" malt before...
