December 2022 - Day 10 - NEIPA

Post by know1 » Sat Dec 03, 2022 5:12 pm

My original plan was to make barleywine but I felt it was way too short of maturing time so maybe next year.

Batch Size : 42 L

Fermentables (11.9 kg)
4.5 kg - Pale Malt, Maris Otter
4.5 kg - Viking Pale Ale Malt
1.6 kg - Organic Wheat (Shoreline)
1 kg - Oats, Flaked
300 g - Chit Malt

Hops (18.5 oz)
Boil
60 min - 0.5 oz - Galaxy - 15.2% (12 IBU)
Whirlpool
30 min @ 170.6 °F
2 oz - Citra - 12.8% (5 IBU)
2 oz - El Dorado - 11.6% (4 IBU)
2 oz - Galaxy - 15.2% (5 IBU)
2 oz - Mosaic - 11.3% (4 IBU)

Yeast was top cropped Kviek from Paul's APA and directly added to.the fermenter

Dry Hops - Added to fermenter right away and applied 10 PSI pressure
4 oz - Falconers Flight - 11.4%
4 oz - Galaxy - 15.2%
2 oz - El Dorado - 11.6%

Keg Hops
0.5 oz Mosiac Cryo in each keg

The aroma on this is magical! The hops must have been dam fresh. Huge mango, peach and stone fruit. So bright and distinctive. I normally find the body too full with a sweet finish from commercial examples I’ve had. Usually one and done. This beer has a light- med body and finishes dry enough to slam back a few. Great share.

Nice carb with a soft mouthfeel. Lacing clings onto the glass to the end. I don't get the classic orange bomb that I usually get from voss. It's there but allows the hops to do the heavy lifting. I get a candied tropical fruit thing on the nose with a small amount of pine for the taste. Perfect bitterness. Great brew Jeremy.
Kegged - Cold IPA, NEIPA, Fieldberry Wheat, Dark Abbey Ale, Apple Pear Cider, American Lager, American Stout, Belgian Wit

enjoyed this one late last night after a long day at work. Embarrassed that I am not yet at the level to notice and detail ho profiles like the peers' posts above, but this was a darned yummy crisp, refreshing brew!

The aroma of this was INSANE. So much of those awesome tropical galaxy notes.
I got a little hop burn, but the thinner body and more bitterness than I expected made this a really enjoyable beer I'm glad to have tried.
