Sorry I haven't been commenting much on the exchange beers but I've been enjoying them a lot. The quality has been really high this year.
This is a Belgian Dubbel with espresso:
OG 1.070 FG 1.010 abv 7.9%
3kg Pilsner malt
2kg Munich malt
300g caramunich
Mash at 67C
Boil 1 hour
1 oz hallertauer 60 min
.5oz hallertauer 30 min
500g sugar added in the last 5 minute.
Fermented on wlp550 Belgian ale at basement temp (we had a warm spell when it was fermenting and it was a bit higher than I wanted).
I added 3 cups of espresso at bottling.
Hope you like it!

Re: Dec 30, 2020 Dubbel Shot
This was really solid. I thought the espresso was pretty subdued, but blended in well. Too strong of a coffee flavour I think wouldn't have really worked with the style, so I think you did well with the balance. The underlying dubbel was nicely done. Thanks for sharing
On tap: Hopped Mead, ESB, Schwazbier
Coming up: Altbier
Fermenting: Maibock
Planned: NEIPA, NZ Pils, Oyster Stout

This is really good. On paper I would write off this idea, espresso in a dubbel is not really a thing I think I would want. In practice, however, this works so well. It tastes like a really great central american coffee, rich, notes of brown sugar, dark fruit, touch of caramel. Well done Tim.

Thanks for the delicious beer. I thought the coffee flavour is coming through a lot and slightly overpowered some of the dubbel malt character. Thanks for the treat!

I agree - would never think of putting these together and on paper wouldn't think this would work so well, but it was great. I first saw the style and got really excited and then I took the first sip and did not expect it all (thought it reminded me of tobacco?), and then I realized what was going on and my taste buda settled into it and we had a nice, flavourful time.

I enjoyed this quite a bit and agree with Taylor about it bringing the best of New World coffee notes to a beer. My only observation would be that there wasn’t a lot of classic Belgian yeast character coming through, especially in the aroma. Could be that the coffee masks it. Regardless, this was delicious and I would happily drink more of it. Thanks!
