Some type of IPA

Post by Broob » Mon Feb 03, 2014 4:19 pm

Putting together a recipe for an IPA - 1.064 OG and about 60 IBU

83.9 % 2 row
8.1 % Munich
8.1 % Crystal 60

I've got a shit-tun of cascade so I'm thinking that for late additions and dry hopping but not sure what to do for bittering. I've used columbus recently and it was good. First of all do the grains look ok? And any ideas on a good bittering hop to complement the recipe?
Thanks

Looks good. I'd use the columbus for bittering, and lots of cascade from 20min to FO.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Looks good. My house IPA has a similar grain bill. I use C15 in place of the 60 (slightly less as well) and fire in a handful of Melanoidin. Looks like you'll get a great beer out of that.

I change up the hop bill pretty frequently, but it's usually similar to what X mentioned. Good bittering charge at the start of the boil and then load up from 20 to flame out. The last batch I brewed used Columbus for bittering and Columbus, Centennial, and Simcoe from 20 to 0.

I think I'm ready to pull the trigger on this
1.067 OG, 70.4 IBU
Grains mentioned above
1oz Columbus 60 min
1oz cascade 15 min
1oz centennial 10 min
1oz cascade 5 min
1 oz cascade 1 min
1oz of both cascade and centennial dry hop

Seem like a reasonable hop schedule?

Looks great!
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I'm working on finishing a keg of something very similar to this. Turned out excellent. No worries about that hop schedule!
