The only brewing I've done so far is with festa kits. I would like to do pumpkin ale for the fall and was wondering if anyone had any experience with adding pumpkin to a festa or brew house kit?
What would be a good kit to use as a base...cream...pale ale?
When would you add the pumpkin...primary or secondary?
How long should I plan to have it on before kegging?

I think pureed pumpkin in the secondary would be best. But it might not make much difference.
Either base would be fine to me. Probably a week at least before kegging.

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

Re: Prepared wort pumpkin ale?
I have only ever put it in the mash as I do all grain, but I have read lots of others like to add it to the boil (10 min). Some also recommend spreading it out on a baking sheet with some brown sugar on top and baking it for an hour at 350°C to caramelize the sugars before adding it. Are you planning to add some spices to it as well? Makes it even better!
