Red Racer IPA clone for the Grainfather?

Post by GCR » Thu Oct 13, 2016 8:47 pm

Can anyone recommend a good Red Racer IPA clone recipe? (ideally something that would work well in a Grainfather)?

Haven't come across a recipe that I like online, but from their website I can see what's listed as ingredients for RRIPA. If I were to put a recipe together based on what's listed, I'd probably do this:

Malt Bill:

Maris Otter - 52.2%
Superior Pale Malt - 43.5%
Crystal 40L - 4.3%

Hops (adjust for the AA% of the hops at your LHBS):

0.5 oz German Magnum (12% AA) - First Wort Hopping

Then with 15, 10, and 5 minutes left to boil add:
0.5 oz Amarillo (8.4%), 0.5 oz Centennial (9.4%), and 0.5 oz Simcoe (13%)

At flameout add 1oz each of Amarillo, Centennial, and Simcoe.
Dry hop for 3-5 days with some combination of Amarillo, Centennial, and Simcoe. Probably 4-5 oz total.

Ferment with clean yeast (US-05, Wyeast 1056, WLP 001, Wyeast 1098, etc. Pick your favorite). Probably mash between 150 and 152F.

Cheers!

EDIT: I should add that the recipe above puts me at:
1.061 OG (est. 6.5% ABV) - Red Racer has 6.5% ABV
78.8 IBU - Red Racer has 80.
What's Brewing?

I should say that I did this for a 5 gallon (19L) batch. The grainfather may be able to brew larger batches. If so, just adjust the hop amounts!

Thanks again! Didn't realize there would be so much math to this whole brewing thing ;)
