"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Loved both versions. Usually I don't like vanilla porters but this one was great. Just enough but not too much.

Great job on the porters. Really enjoyed the Chipotle.

Really enjoyed both of these. Smoked Porters are my favorite winter brews. I am leaning towards the chipotle as well.

Smoked porter w/ vanilla

Thin head. Nice aroma. Chocolate and coffee with a hint of the smoke. Smoke comes in strong on the taste with the vanilla notes coming forth as well. Really liking how the flavours play off each other in this brew.

Smoked porter w/ choptle

Noticing more the scent of smoke in this one with a hint of fire behind it. The chipotle tastes mingle well with the base beer. A little hot spiciness and a touch of the taste of the peppers fruit flavours playing off the smoke and malts.

Really enjoyed both. I had the vanilla first and then the chipotle but could see them being paired with a spicy meal and a chocolate based dessert in the opposite order . Good job fellas!

I thought this was a brilliant idea. I do wish I could taste the base beer completely unaltered, but it was awesome to taste two different treatments of the same base beer. The chipotle probably complemented the smoked flavor a little better, but I thought the vanilla was really well done and probably a way to gently introduce a beer with smoky flavors to someone who hasn't had it. Both of these were awesome; thanks!

Just getting to the Chipolte version now and really like it. Nothing over powers. I really enjoy smoked porters and this doesn't disappoint. Thanks!

Really enjoy the Vanilla version as well. I love that it is just a hint and doesn't take away from the underlying beer. Great job guys!

Liked both quite a bit. Not too smoky. Probably liked the vanilla one a bit better, but the Chipotle one was more exciting to try. Glad to have both. Great job!

I preferred the Chipotle version. I think I would have liked just a touch more vanilla in the other one. I only picked up the slightest tiny little hint of it, and I think only because I knew it should be there.

Regardless, I enjoyed both beers. Thanks!

I preferred the chipotle as well. Both were good. The vanilla version seemed to have a heavier smoke flavour. The chipotle was like drinking a bbq. Awesome!!

I got to these last night. I have to against the grain and say I preferred the vanilla better, I found the slight sweetness (or perceived sweetness) and the slight smoke to be a nice combo. Thanks!

Catching up. Cheers in both! Leaning on the vanilla just because it gives off a more "classic" vibe

Finally had these the other night - was waiting to share them with a couple of friends that I thought would be interested. I think that overall there was a slight preference for the vanilla, but both were great! I thought the smokiness in the base was bang on and that both additions complemented that base flavour well. Thanks!
