Thanks! The rye helps a lot with body on this one which may be affecting perceived sweetness?mumblecrunch wrote:Which is probably part of the reason I liked it so much (I have not yet acquired the taste for some of the stronger estery flavors). I also couldn't believe that this dried out to 1.001; didn't taste overly dry at all. Nice beer.jeffsmith wrote:I think next time I'd change up the yeast a bit. It didn't kick off the amount of esters if been anticipating or shooting for.

Re: Advent #21
Knowing how much it had dried out I was expecting something almost puckering. I think you're probably right: the spiciness of the rye creeping across the palate probably helps with the perception of body, because I wouldn't have described it as sweet, but I certainly wouldn't have called it "thin".jeffsmith wrote:Thanks! I'm definitely looking forward to learning a bunch more about rye with the March exchange

Another beer that I enjoyed. Really want to get on the saison train when I'm back home. I picked up a vial of yeast but have yet to brew one.

After this (and Peter's and Trevor's) saisons, I may have to make one next summer. I liked the spiciness, but I don't know if it was from the rye, the yeast, or both. I guess after the rye exchange I'll have a better idea.

The rye was definitely a big contributor. I was a little disappointed with the yeast. It didn't contribute as much to the beer as I was hoping.
